India

With the rise in new COVID−19 cases globally, Indian authorities have commenced random checking of international passengers on arrival. Additional requirements apply to incoming passengers on all international flights from certain high-risk countries (China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan). Among other formalities, travellers from these countries are required to submit a self-declaration form and upload a negative COVID−19 RT-PCR report (within 72 hours prior to departure) on the Air Suvidha portal. This will also apply to passengers transiting through India from these countries. For more information, please refer to the latest update on the Indian Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and New Delhi Airport's website. Tanzania

If you're entering Tanzania from or transiting through Uganda or DRC, you must complete a health surveillance form online or on arrival. If you're entering Zanzibar, you'll need to complete an online health surveillance form within 24 hours before your arrival (see 'Travel'). You must present proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations with a QR code when you enter Tanzania. If you're not fully vaccinated, you'll be required to present a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test with a QR code taken within 72 hours of departure or take a COVID-19 (RAT) test on arrival. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall due to the risk of serious crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mexico

Smoking has been banned in all public places in Mexico. You may be fined or arrested. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Mexico overall due to high levels of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mali

We've reviewed our advice for Mali. We continue to advise do not travel to Mali. We now also advise do not travel to the southern parts of Koulikoro, Kayes, Sikasso; the region of Segou, south of the Niger River. The political and security situation could get worse suddenly. The Canadian Embassy can provide limited emergency consular assistance to Australians in need (see 'Local contacts'). Terrorist attacks have increased since mid-July 2022 in central and southern Mali, including in the vicinity of Bamako. Although they have primarily targeted security forces installations, they have resulted in numerous casualties, including civilians. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Mali due to the high risk of terrorist attack and kidnapping.

Palau

You're required to submit a health declaration form when entering Palau. This form can be completed prior to travel and is available online (see 'Travel'). You may still apply to enter Palau even if you're not fully vaccinated. The Australian Embassy in Koror has been temporarily relocated (see 'Local contacts'). We advise : Exercise normal safety precautions in Palau.

South Africa

We advise exercise a high degree of caution in South Africa. Be alert as crime rates in South Africa are significantly higher than in Australia and often involve weapons. For more information, see 'Safety'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in South Africa due to the high level of serious crime.

Laos

You're no longer required to show evidence of a COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 (ATK) test to enter Laos (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Laos overall. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Tunisia

Protests and demonstrations are expected across Tunisia on 14 January 2023 and through the rest of the month. A national transport strike, involving air, land and sea transport workers has been called for 25 and 26 January. A state of emergency remains in place until 30 January 2023. Avoid protests and demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities. We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tunisia overall due to the threat of a terrorist attack. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Guatemala

You no longer need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter Guatemala. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Guatemala due to high levels of violent crime.

Canada

All travellers 2 years of age and older flying to Canada from China, Hong Kong or Macau, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 2 days before their departure to board their flight. We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in Canada.

Portugal

All COVID-19 travel restrictions for entry into Portugal have been removed, except if you're travelling from China (see 'Travel'). Face masks are required in healthcare facilities, hospitals and aged care homes. Community transmission of COVID-19 remains high (see 'Health'). Localised flooding can occur in Portugal during winter, particularly in urban areas. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). Germany

There are no COVID-19 related restrictions for entry to Germany, except if you're travelling from China (see Travel). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Germany due to the threat of terrorism.

Netherlands

The Netherlands has introduced new rules for travellers arriving from China. From 10 January 2023, travellers 11 years old and over arriving from China must show evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, taken within 48 hours of departure. You will also need to wear a mask on the flight. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands.

Taiwan

If you're entering Taiwan on a direct flight from China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau), you must take a saliva-based PCR test on arrival at the airport. From 6 January, if you're flying from China to Taiwan (including from China to Taiwan transiting through Hong Kong and Macau), you must also present a PCR test taken within 48 hours before boarding your flight or a rapid antigen test (RAT) taken within 24 hours before boarding. If you test negative, you can go to your accommodation for 7 days of Self-initiated Epidemic Prevention. If you test positive, you'll need to isolate and practice self-health management until you test negative, or 7 days have passed since the last day of your isolation period. If you're travelling from locations other than China, you don't have to do any tests or quarantine, but you will need to undertake 7 days of Self-initiated Epidemic Prevention. France

From 5 January, if you're arriving in France from China, Hong Kong or Macau, you'll need to present a negative COVID-19 test result (antigen or PCR) taken within 48 hours of departure and a declaration form before boarding. Self-administered tests, such as rapid antigen tests, won't be accepted. You'll also need to wear a face mask throughout the flight and agree to random COVID-19 PCR tests upon arrival in France (see 'Travel').
