Netherlands

We've reviewed our travel advice for the Netherlands. We haven't changed the level, exercise normal safety precautions. There are no COVID-19-related restrictions for entry into the Netherlands. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands.

China

From 29 April, if you're arriving on an international flight into China, you can take a rapid antigen self-test (RAT) within 48 hours before boarding. Airlines will no longer check your test certificate before boarding. Read the updated 'Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Epidemics for Travelers to China' (see 'Travel’). You're no longer required to undertake pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirements if you arrive in Australia from China. As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on the grounds of 'endangering national security'. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in China overall due to ongoing local COVID-19 restrictions. Other levels apply in some areas.

Samoa

We've reviewed our advice for Samoa. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise you to exercise normal safety precautions. Samoa has lifted all COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Weekly flights to and from Australia continue. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Samoa.

Namibia

We've reviewed our advice for Namibia. We've lowered the overall travel advice level. We now advise exercise normal safety precautions in Namibia. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions.  

Kosovo

We've reviewed our advice for Kosovo. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution overall. Higher levels apply in some areas. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Kosovo overall due to the potential for politically motivated violence, especially in the northern municipalities.

Chad

We've reviewed our advice for Chad. We haven't changed the overall level of our advice, do not travel. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the capital N’Djamena. The border with Sudan has been closed until further notice. Chad is extremely dangerous due to the risk of terrorism, kidnapping, civil unrest and violent crime. If you decide to go anyway, seek professional security advice. Avoid crowds, including any demonstrations or protests. Follow the advice of local authorities. Our ability to provide consular services in Chad is extremely limited. For consular assistance, contact the Australian Embassy in Paris (see 'Local contacts'). We continue to advise: Do not travel  to Chad overall due to the significant risk of terrorism, kidnapping, crime and civil unrest. Other levels apply in some areas.

New Caledonia

We've reviewed our advice for New Caledonia. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise exercise normal safety precautions. We’ve made updates on beach closures and swimming bans (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in New Caledonia.

Hungary

We've reviewed our travel advice level for Hungary. We haven't changed the level, exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Hungary.

Argentina

We've reviewed our advice for Argentina. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. Higher levels apply in other areas. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Argentina. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Ecuador

We've reviewed our advice for Ecuador. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise exercise a high degree of caution due to high levels of crime. Higher levels apply in some areas. There is a state of emergency in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Santa Elena and Los Rios, and the cities of Guayaquil, Samborondón and Duran due to security and crime-related issues. Monitor local media and follow the Ecuadorian Government's official advice (see Safety). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Ecuador overall due to high levels of crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Cook Islands

Flights to and from Auckland, New Zealand and Pape'ete, Tahiti, have been reinstated. COVID-19 vaccination requirements no longer apply for entry to the Cook Islands (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Cook Islands.

Tunisia

Protests, demonstrations and strikes can occur with little or no warning and may become violent. Strikes may affect essential services including ground and air transport services. Avoid protests and demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tunisia overall due to the threat of a terrorist attack. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Palau

We've reviewed our advice for Palau. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. From 29 May, bringing, importing, advertising, selling, and using e-cigarettes and vapes in Palau will be illegal. We advise : Exercise normal safety precautions in Palau.

Bhutan

We've reviewed our advice for Bhutan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Bhutan.

Morocco

You're no longer subject to entry restrictions if travelling to Morocco from or through China. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Morocco overall due to the high risk of terrorist attacks.

Afghanistan

We've reviewed our advice for Afghanistan. We continue to advise do not travel to Afghanistan. There's an ongoing and very high threat of terrorist attacks throughout Afghanistan, including in Kabul. Terrorists continue to target foreigners, NGOs and humanitarian operations. Foreign nationals, including Australians, also face a serious threat of kidnapping or detention. There are no Australian consular officials present in Afghanistan, and our ability to provide consular assistance to Australians in Afghanistan is severely limited. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Afghanistan due to the extremely dangerous security situation and the very high threat of terrorist attack.

Philippines

We've reviewed our advice for the Philippines. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution overall. Higher levels apply. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the Philippines overall due to crime and terrorism. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has removed all COVID-19 entry restrictions. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Azerbaijan overall  due to the unpredictable security situation and ongoing tension along the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Venezuela

Do not travel to Venezuela due to the unstable political and economic situation, shortages of food, water, medicine and petrol, and high levels of violent crime. Borders with Curaçao and Bonaire have re-opened. If you visit Venezuela despite our advice, you'll need proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 PCR-RT test taken within 72 hours before arrival to enter the country. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Venezuela due to the unstable political and economic situation, shortages of food, water, medicine and petrol, and high levels of violent crime.

Taiwan

We've reviewed our advice for Taiwan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. If you test positive for COVID-19 and have mild symptoms, you no longer need to quarantine, but you are still advised to observe the 'Self-Health Management' protocols. You no longer have to wear a mask on public transport (see 'Travel'). We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in Taiwan.

Nigeria

We’ve reviewed our advice for Nigeria. We haven’t changed our overall level, reconsider your need to travel. Some areas have an increased risk, we have raised the level of advice for Kogi State and Lagos city. There’s a high risk of terrorist attacks and kidnappings across Nigeria, including in the capital city Abuja, by various militant groups. Further attacks are likely. If, despite our advice, you undertake travel within Nigeria, research your routes and get professional security advice and support before departing. Avoid all political gatherings, which may occur with little or no notice. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall due to high threats of terrorist attack and kidnapping, the volatile security situation, possible violent civil unrest and high levels of violent crime. Higher levels apply.

Japan

We've reviewed our advice for Japan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. Higher levels apply in some areas. The Japanese Government recommends mask wearing in medical institutions, nursing homes, and on crowded buses or trains. Mask wearing in other locations is a personal choice. Brazil

We've reviewed our advice for Brazil. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. In case of protests, monitor the media, follow the instructions of local authorities and review our guidance on staying safe during demonstrations (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high crime rates.

Tonga

We’ve reviewed our advice for Tonga. We've lowered the advice level. We now advise exercise normal safety precautions. You no longer need to provide proof of COVID–19 vaccinations to travel to Tonga. If you test positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Tonga, you must self-isolate for 5 days. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Tonga.

Sudan

We've reviewed our advice for Sudan. We haven't changed the overall level of our advice, reconsider your need to travel. Higher levels apply in some areas. We now advise, do not travel to East and Central Darfur States. We continue to advise do not travel to North, South and West Darfur States. Sudan's political situation remains unstable despite the framework agreement signed between the military and civilian parties. Protests continue to take place across the country. There are reports of violence against protestors, including arbitrary arrests and deaths. Avoid all demonstrations and remain vigilant. Monitor media coverage and follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Sudan overall due to ongoing civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Canada

We've reviewed our advice for Canada. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. You no longer need to take a COVID-19 test before travelling to Canada. Check the latest entry, transit and exit requirements before travel. We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in Canada.

South Sudan

We've reviewed our advice for South Sudan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel. The political and security situation is volatile and can worsen without warning. If you're in South Sudan, and it's safe to do so, leave as soon as possible. We continue to advise: Do not travel to South Sudan, including Juba, due to instability and ongoing conflict.

Chile

Important reminder that Australian citizens require an approved valid visa to enter Chile. Make sure you apply well in advance to avoid issues (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile due to potential demonstrations, civil unrest and violence.

Belarus

We've reviewed our advice for Belarus. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel to Belarus. The security environment is volatile and could deteriorate at short notice. Belarus has introduced laws incurring jail sentences for 'terrorism propaganda' and 'discrediting' the Belarusian armed forces and military organisations. Penalties may be severe, including the death penalty for high treason. If you're in Belarus, leave immediately using the limited commercial options available or private means. Review your personal security plans and carefully consider the safest means and route to depart. You're responsible for your own safety and that of your family. Do not attempt to travel to the Belarus-Ukraine border or cross into Ukraine from Belarus. Our ability to provide consular assistance in Belarus is severely limited. Vanuatu

Vanuatu is under a state of emergency due to the impacts of Cyclones Judy and Kevin, which have caused widespread damage. There may be disruptions to infrastructure, services and telecommunications while repairs are underway. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). Air Vanuatu are experiencing international and domestic flight disruptions. Contact your airline directly if you think you may be impacted (see ‘Travel’). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Vanuatu.

Cameroon

We’ve reviewed our advice for Cameroon. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. There is an outbreak of Marburg virus in the province of Kie Ntem in northern Equatorial Guinea, which borders southern Cameroon. Movement restrictions are in place in and around this area. The border between Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon is closed. If you're in the area, follow the advice of local authorities, monitor media for the latest information and comply with local movement restrictions (see Health). Trinidad and Tobago

We've reviewed our travel advice for Trinidad and Tobago. We haven't changed our level of advice, exercise a high degree of caution due to the high levels of serious violent crime. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Trinidad and Tobago due to the high levels of serious violent crime.

Peru

We've reviewed our advice for Peru. We now advise exercise a high degree of caution in Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cusco and Puerto Maldonado. Higher levels apply. Due to weather conditions, a State of Emergency remains in place in northern coastal and some central parts of Peru. Travel services, including inter-provincial road travel, may be disrupted. Tourist attractions may be temporarily closed. Civil unrest has been affecting some regions in central and southern Peru. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the province of Puno as a State of Emergency and local curfews remain in place. Take precautions to ensure your safety. Avoid areas affected by civil unrest. If protests develop where you are, leave if it's safe to. Follow the advice of local authorities. Contact your airline or travel provider for updates. Djibouti

We've reviewed our advice for Djibouti. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Colombia

The Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues showing signs of increased seismic activity. Colombian authorities have ordered the evacuation of high-risk areas and indicated that an eruption is likely in the coming days or weeks. Follow the advice of local authorities. We continue to advise that you exercise a high degree of caution in Colombia due to high levels of crime and terrorism. Higher levels apply in some areas. Thailand

We've reviewed our advice for Thailand. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply. If you're visiting Thailand and then travelling to a country that requires COVID-19 testing (RAT or PCR test) for entry, you'll need to purchase medical insurance prior to your arrival in Thailand. The insurance will need to provide cover for COVID-19 treatment. You no longer need permission to enter Thailand, show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result. Thailand continues to experience local transmission of COVID-19. Wear a mask, practice social distancing, and follow government restrictions. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution to Thailand overall due to the possibility of civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, including in Bangkok and Phuket.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Niue

You no longer need to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test or complete a Niue Traveller Declaration to enter Niue (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Niue. 

Yemen

We've reviewed our travel advice for Yemen. We haven't changed the level of our advice. We continue to advise do not travel to Yemen, including the island of Socotra. There's ongoing armed conflict and a very high threat of kidnapping. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Yemen (including the island of Socotra) due to ongoing armed conflict, and the very high threat of kidnapping and terrorism.

Hong Kong

You're no longer required to undertake a pre-departure COVID-19 test if you arrive in Australia from Hong Kong. Cannabidiol (CBD) is listed as a dangerous drug in Hong Kong (see 'Local laws'). The maximum penalty is life imprisonment. You no longer need proof of a negative COVID-19 test to board your flight to Hong Kong, however your temperature will be checked on arrival and you will be referred to local health authorities if you have COVID-19 symptoms. Dual citizenship is no longer recognised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region following the application of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China (see 'Local laws'). As previously advised, Hong Kong's National Security Law could be interpreted broadly, and you could break the law without intending to.
