Vietnam

Latvia

We’ve reviewed our advice for Latvia and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. We also continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to areas near the border with Belarus. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions overall in Latvia. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Netherlands

We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands.

Panama

Protests are causing significant disruption to essential services, including transport and food. Protests can turn violent and may disrupt your travel plans. Crime levels are high in Panama. Take care of your belongings, especially in transport hubs. Pay attention to your personal security in crowded areas and don't go out alone (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Panama overall due to the threat of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

North Macedonia

Canada

Sierra Leone

A nationwide curfew is in place following an attempted break-in at the Wilberforce military barracks in Freetown. Avoid the area, follow the instructions of authorities and monitor the local media (see 'Safety'). Following the recent election, additional security forces have been deployed, with further tensions and political gatherings taking place. Avoid all political and election-related gatherings. Follow the instructions of local authorities and monitor local media for information on ongoing demonstrations. The Australian High Commission in Accra currently has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Sierra Leone. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sierra Leone due to the threat of violent crime and the risk of civil unrest. 

Ireland

Violent protests and riots occurred near the Dublin city centre on 23 November. Should further protests and disruptions occur, Australians are reminded to avoid these and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Ireland.

Georgia

We've reviewed our travel advice for Georgia and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions overall. Georgia has announced that surrogacy will be banned for foreigners from 1 January 2024 (see 'Local Laws'). We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions overall in Georgia. Higher levels apply in some areas.  

Iran

We've reviewed our advice for Iran and continue to advise do not travel to Iran. Australians, including dual nationals, should strongly consider leaving Iran as soon as possible. Foreigners, including Australians, are at a high risk of arbitrary detention or arrest. Foreign and dual nationals, including Australians, have been detained without due process of law. Kidnap for ransom is a risk in Iran. Localised protests continue in parts of the country. Avoid all protest activity and monitor media for possible threats. (see 'Safety'). We continue to advise: Do not travel to Iran as there's a high risk you could be arbitrarily detained or arrested. 

Federated States of Micronesia

We've reviewed our advice for the Federated States of Micronesia and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Niger

We've reviewed our advice for Niger and continue to advise do not travel. The security situation remains highly volatile. There's ongoing political instability. Protests and civil unrest are expected to continue and can turn violent without warning. Avoid government buildings, demonstrations, large crowds and political gatherings. Movement restrictions may be implemented at short notice. There's a high risk of terrorism. Terrorists may target places visited by foreigners, including hotels, cafes and restaurants as well as government buildings, security facilities, international organisations, diplomatic buildings and police stations. Avoid possible targets and be aware of your surroundings and alert to security threats. There's a high risk of kidnapping across Niger. Foreigners are particularly at risk. Zimbabwe

Parts of Zimbabwe (including Harare) are currently experiencing a cholera outbreak. Demonstrations and protests in Zimbabwe can be unpredictable and may turn violent quickly. Avoid activities that could be considered political, and stay away from protests and demonstrations. During periods of unrest, monitor local media, avoid affected areas and follow advice from local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Zimbabwe due to the threat of crime and the risk of civil unrest.

Mauritius

We've reviewed our advice for Mauritius and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in Mauritius. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Mauritius.

Myanmar

We've reviewed our advice for Myanmar and continue to advise do not travel to Myanmar. Violence, including explosions and attacks, can occur anywhere and anytime, including in Yangon. Attacks may be planned against locations that foreigners frequent, including public spaces and civilian infrastructure. Attacks are unpredictable in their location and intensity. Remain aware of the security environment at all times. Minimise movement, especially on anniversaries and days of national significance, and monitor media closely. There've been widespread detentions, including of foreigners. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention. Be aware of offers of employment that appear 'too good to be true'. Foreign nationals have been trafficked into Myanmar (either directly into Yangon or via a neighbouring country) and forced to work in fraudulent activity, with poor pay and living conditions, restrictions on movement, and severe mistreatment. United Kingdom

We've reviewed our travel advice for the United Kingdom and continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the UK due to the threat of terrorism.

Kuwait

We've reviewed our advice for Kuwait and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. There's an increased risk of terrorism, including threats against military bases. Maintain a high degree of security awareness. Demonstrations and protests can turn violent quickly. Avoid large public gatherings. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor media for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Kuwait due to the threat of terrorism. 

Finland

We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in Finland. The Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala border crossings with Russia are closed until February 2024 (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Finland.

India

The Cricket World Cup is being held in India between 5 October to 19 November. Expect heightened security at match locations. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor media for updates. Curfews and restrictions continue in parts of Manipur following violent demonstrations, resulting in casualties. Security agencies have increased their presence in the region. Mobile internet services remain suspended, and transport services have been disrupted. Further restrictions may be imposed at short notice. If you're in Manipur, avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities, take official warnings seriously and monitor local media for updates. Slovenia

We've reviewed our advice for Slovenia. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Slovenia.

Eritrea

We've reviewed our advice and continue to advise reconsider your need to travel. Do not travel levels apply in some areas. In response to the conflict in northern Ethiopia, the Eritrean Government has called for a mobilisation of its armed forces. Additional security measures may be introduced at short notice in Asmara and across the country. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Eritrea overall due to the risk of civil unrest and the threat of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Fiji

A Tropical Cyclone could impact Fiji on 14 and 15 November. There may be flight disruptions. Strong winds and heavy rain are predicted. Monitor local media and follow the advice and warnings from the Fiji Meteorological Service (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Fiji. 

Morocco

We've reviewed our advice for Morocco and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. On 8 September, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, southwest of Marrakesh, causing widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure, including power, water, roads and communications. Recovery and reconstruction efforts are underway. Avoid travelling to impacted areas. There is currently an increased risk of demonstrations and protests occurring around the country. Avoid protests and demonstrations. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor media for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Morocco overall due to the threat of terrorism.

Peru

There's been significant civil unrest in the department of Puno in recent months. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the region of Puno. Take precautions to ensure your safety. Avoid areas affected by civil unrest. If protests develop where you are, leave if it's safe to. Follow the advice of local authorities. Contact your airline or travel provider for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Peru overall due to the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Brazil

From 10 January 2024, Australian passport holders will require a visa to enter Brazil (see 'Travel'). In case of protests, monitor the media and follow instructions of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high crime rates.

Thailand

We've reviewed our advice and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand overall. We've lowered our advice for Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla provinces. We now advise reconsider your need to travel to Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces due to ongoing risks of low-level insurgent activity (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution to Thailand overall due to the risk of civil unrest and the threat of terrorism, including in Bangkok and Phuket.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Oman

We've reviewed our advice for Oman and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. Higher levels apply in some areas. You'll need a valid visa to travel to Oman. The type of visa depends on your country of residence and purpose of travel. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. See ‘Travel’. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Oman. Nigeria

We’ve reviewed our advice for Nigeria and continue to advise reconsider your need to travel. Do not travel levels apply in some areas. There’s a high risk of terrorist attacks and kidnappings across Nigeria, including in the capital city Abuja. Attacks are likely and potential targets include a wide range of locations. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall due to the volatile security situation and threat of terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime and the risk of civil unrest. Higher levels apply.

Sri Lanka

We've reviewed our advice for Sri Lanka and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Public demonstrations can occur throughout Sri Lanka and may become violent. Avoid areas impacted by demonstrations. There are shortages of some medicines in Sri Lanka. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the threat of public demonstrations, shortages of some imported medicines and security risks. 

Iceland

We've reviewed our travel advice for Iceland and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. Avoid areas near volcano eruption sites and areas close to mountains with steep slopes on the Reykjanes peninsula due to the danger of falling rocks. Bahrain

We've reviewed our advice for Bahrain and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bahrain due to the threat of terrorism and risk of civil unrest.

Sudan

We've reviewed our advice for Sudan and continue to advise do not travel. Australians should strongly consider leaving Sudan as soon as possible. There are commercial departure options from Port Sudan and Port Suakin. You may also be able to enter Egypt and other neighbouring countries via land borders. You need valid travel documentation and visas to exit Sudan and enter Saudi Arabia or Egypt. Carefully consider the risks for any departure route, including during ceasefires (see 'Full advice - Safety'). The security situation remains volatile, and violence could escalate at short notice. Adopt appropriate personal security measures and remain vigilant. Monitor media and continue to follow our advice on Smartraveller. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Sudan due to the dangerous security situation and the threat of armed conflict and civil unrest.

Argentina

We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in Argentina. Protests and demonstrations may occur leading up to the presidential election on 19 November. Avoid large public gatherings. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Argentina. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Somalia

We've reviewed our advice for Somalia and continue to advise do not travel. Terrorist attacks continue to occur. If you're in Somalia, leave as soon as possible. If you decide to stay, despite our advice, get professional security advice. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Somalia due to the dangerous security situation and the threat of armed conflict, terrorism, kidnapping and violent crime.

Azerbaijan

We've reviewed our travel advice for Azerbaijan and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. The security situation in Nagorno-Karabakh remains uncertain following military action in the region in September. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Azerbaijan overall  due to the unpredictable security situation and ongoing tension along the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Central African Republic

We've reviewed our advice for the Central African Republic (CAR) and continue to advise, do not travel. Outbreaks of intercommunal violence and armed conflict can happen without warning throughout the country, including in Bangui. If, despite our advice, you decide to travel to the CAR, take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety. We continue to advise: Do not travel to the Central African Republic due to the dangerous security situation, activities of armed groups and high levels of serious crime.
