Singapore

Singapore has transitioned to a new Vaccinated Travel Framework. If you're fully vaccinated and haven't visited a 'Restricted Category' destination, you can enter Singapore quarantine free. You no longer need a pre-departure test before travelling to Singapore. You'll need to complete a Singapore Arrival Card. If you're not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received prior approval to enter Singapore, you'll need travel insurance with a minimum coverage of SGD$30,000. You don't need a pre-departure test to transit through Singapore. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Singapore due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Iraq

We've reviewed our advice for Iraq. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel to Iraq. The security situation throughout Iraq remains volatile. There's a risk the security situation could deteriorate further. Due to the volatile security environment and the ongoing threat of kidnappings, you should leave Iraq immediately by commercial means if it's safe to do so. If you're staying in Iraq, be alert and check media for updates on new threats. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, due to the volatile security situation and very high risk of violence, armed conflict, kidnapping and terrorist attack.

Laos

Laos’ borders have reopened to international travellers. Australian travellers can obtain visas-on-arrival and e-visas. Legal spouses (foreign citizens) of Lao nationals will need to register via the Lao Greenpass website. You won't need a COVID-19 test if you're fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers over 12 years old will need to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 (rapid ATK) test taken within 48 hours before travel. You won't need to quarantine. If you contract COVID-19 while in Laos, you'll be responsible for your treatment costs. Peru

Papua New Guinea

There's an increased risk of civil unrest and violence during election periods. Check security conditions and monitor the media and local security reports before travelling to new areas. India

We've reviewed our advice for India. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. All travellers to India must complete the 'Air Suvidha self-declaration form' before departure. Travellers from specified countries, including Australia, may upload their vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test report to support their Air Suvidha declaration. COVID-19 restrictions, including localised lockdowns and curfews, may be imposed at short notice. Monitor local media for the latest updates. Eswatini

Cyprus

All COVID-19 entry restrictions have been removed, regardless of your vaccination status. You're no longer required to take a COVID-19 test before arrival. You'll need a 'SafePass' to access some services such as aged care and other medical facilities. Your Australian International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (ICVC) must be presented in hard copy with photo identification. If you contract COVID-19 while in Cyprus, you'll be transferred to a quarantine facility (see 'Travel'). We’ve reviewed our advice for Cyprus. We haven’t changed the level of our advice. Lesotho

If you travel to Lesotho, you must provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours of your arrival. Bosnia and Herzegovina

All COVID-19 entry restrictions into Bosnia and Herzegovina have been lifted. You don't need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, recovery or negative COVID-19 (PCR) test result to enter. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the impacts of COVID-19.

South Africa

You are no longer required to show proof that you’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or present a Negative PCR test to enter South Africa. Heavy rains and flooding in the city of Durban, as well as other areas in KwaZulu-Natal Province have caused damage to infrastructure and travel routes. Follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in South Africa due to the high level of serious crime.

Italy

All COVID-19 related entry restrictions into Italy have been lifted. Face masks are required on public transport. Face masks aren't required, but are recommended inside enclosed public spaces. Green Passes are no longer required for most activities in Italy. COVID-19 restrictions can change quickly. Follow the direction of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Italy due to the impacts of COVID-19.  

Portugal

You'll need a recognised COVID-19 vaccination certificate or negative COVID-19 test to enter Portugal. Australian International Vaccination Certificates are now recognised (see 'Travel'). You must wear a face mask on public transport and in health care facilities. Community transmission of COVID-19 remains high. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Portugal due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Croatia

New Zealand

You no longer require a pre-departure COVID-19 test to enter New Zealand. If you transit through New Zealand, you don't need to be vaccinated or complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD). Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents can enter New Zealand without self-isolating or entering Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ). If you're entering New Zealand by air you must complete and submit a NZTD and receive a Traveller Pass before departure. Ecuador

There's a 30-day State of Emergency affecting several provinces in the north of Ecuador. Measures include curfews in Quito (see Safety). Entry requirements are dependent on your COVID-19 vaccination status. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Ecuador overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Nepal

We've reviewed our advice for Nepal. We haven't changed the level of our advice from exercise a high degree of caution. You no longer need a COVID-19 test to travel to Nepal if you’re fully vaccinated. Most pandemic restrictions have now been lifted. You'll need to present your COVID-19 vaccination certificate on arrival in Nepal. Follow the advice of local authorities. Monitor the Australian Embassy on Facebook (@australianembassynepal) and Twitter (@AusAmbNP) for regular updates. Pakistan

We’ve reviewed our advice for Pakistan and included new information on domestic violence against women (see ‘Local laws’), rabies (see ‘Health risks’) and road travel in winter (see ‘Travel’). We haven’t changed the level of our advice, reconsider your need to travel. Higher levels apply in some areas. Afghanistan

On 22 June 2022, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit the central region of Afghanistan impacting Paktika, Khost and Nangarhar Provinces. There are heavy casualties and significant damage to homes and infrastructure. If you're in the affected area follow instructions from local authorities. The situation in Afghanistan remains highly volatile. There continues to be an ongoing and very high threat of terrorist attack throughout Afghanistan, including at Kabul International Airport, and at land border crossings. We continue to advise against all travel to and within Afghanistan. The US Government issued a security alert on 11 October advising citizens to avoid travelling to the Serena Hotel and the surrounding vicinity because of security threats at the Serena Hotel. Germany

COVID-19 related restrictions for entry into Germany have been lifted. You can travel to Germany from Australia for all purposes, including tourism. More information can be found on the website of the German Embassy in Australia. (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Germany due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Spain

If you're arriving by air from outside the European Union or Schengen associated countries, you must provide an EU Digital COVID Certificate or complete the SPTH Health Control Form (see 'Travel'). You should refer to the Spanish Health website for the most up to date information on entry into Spain. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Spain due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Serbia

Montenegro

Myanmar

We've reviewed our advice for Myanmar. We continue to advise you 'do not travel' to Myanmar due to ongoing civil unrest and armed conflict. If it's safe to do so, leave Myanmar via commercial airline. Remain aware of the security environment at all times. Exercise caution and monitor media closely. Avoid all public gatherings, protests and areas of known and possible unrest. Violence, including explosions and attacks, can occur anywhere and anytime, including in Yangon. The main targets have been infrastructure, police and military vehicles, and security and administrative personnel. However, there have been civilian targets (including schools, petrol stations, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and shopping malls). Exercise caution in townships under martial law. A curfew remains in place. There have been widespread detentions, including of foreigners. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention. Federated States of Micronesia

We’ve reviewed our advice for the Federated States of Micronesia. We haven't changed the level of our advice. Exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution  in the Federated States of Micronesia due to travel restrictions and border closures.

Venezuela

To enter Venezuela, you must present proof of a full COVID-19 vaccination schedule completed at least 14 days before your arrival date. A booster certificate is also required if more than 270 days have passed since the last dose. If you don't have a vaccination certificate, you must present a hard-copy negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. Do not travel to Venezuela. If you decide to travel, consider that flight options to and from Venezuela are very limited and travelling within the country is challenging (see 'Travel'). COVID-19 remains a risk. Australia doesn't have an embassy or consulate in Venezuela. Contact the Australian Embassy in Colombia for assistance (see 'Local Contacts'). We advise: Do not travel  to Venezuela due to the unstable political and economic situation, shortages of food, water, medicine and petrol, and high levels of violent crime.

Cambodia

Cambodia has recommenced the Visa-on-Arrival program. If you can show proof of vaccination, you don't need any COVID-19 tests pre-departure or on-arrival. You can travel to Cambodia via air, land and sea. If you're unvaccinated, you're still required to quarantine for 7 days. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Cambodia due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Uganda

When entering or departing Uganda, you must present proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations. If you're not fully vaccinated, you'll be required to present a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours of travel. Children below 5 years are exempt. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Uganda overall due to the threat of terrorist attack, civil unrest and criminal activity. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mali

The US government issued an alert warning that a terrorist attack in Bamako may be planned targeting Malian government offices, the airport and/or locations frequented by Westerners including embassies, hotels and restaurants (see ‘Safety’). We continue to advise do not travel to Mali. The political and security situation could get worse suddenly. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has placed sanctions on Mali, including land and air border closures between ECOWAS countries and Mali. There are no flight options between Mali and those destinations until further notice. Flight options to and from non-ECOWAS countries remain available. The Canadian Embassy can provide limited emergency consular assistance to Australians in need (see 'Local contacts'). We continue to advise: Do not travel to Mali overall due to the national state of emergency and the high risk of terrorist attack and kidnapping. Other levels apply in some areas.

Thailand

You can apply to enter Thailand under the 'Thailand Pass' scheme (see 'Travel'). Thailand continues to experience local transmission of COVID-19. Wear a mask, practice social distancing and follow government restrictions. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution  to Thailand overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Indonesia

You don't need a COVID-19 test or proof of COVID-19 medical insurance to travel to Indonesia. However, you must be vaccinated with at least 2 COVID-19 vaccine doses. Children under 18 don't need to be vaccinated. Visas on arrival cost IDR500,000 and must be paid in cash. ATM facilities are available on arrival but may be in high demand. Check the latest visa, entry and vaccination requirements with your travel provider or your nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate before travel. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia overall due to: security risks the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Brunei Darussalam

If you're fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can transit or enter Brunei quarantine-free via the Brunei International Airport. If you’re not fully vaccinated, you must have proof of a medical exemption for COVID-19 vaccines. You'll need to complete an E-health Arrival Declaration form and have COVID-19 health insurance with a minimum coverage of $BND20,000 (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brunei due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Sudan

Sudan's political situation remains unstable following the dissolution of the transitional government by the military on 25 October 2021 and resignation of the Prime Minister on 2 January 2022. Large scale protests continue to take place across the country in response to the political situation. There are reports of violence against protestors, including arbitrary arrests and deaths. Avoid all demonstrations and remain vigilant. Khartoum International Airport is open, however commercial flights may be limited. Internet and mobile services remain unreliable. You should limit your movements and avoid non-essential travel. Monitor media coverage and follow the advice of local authorities (see ‘Safety’). Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has lifted some of its COVID-19 entry requirements. You no longer need to quarantine on arrival or present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result. Check with your nearest Saudi Arabia embassy or consulate for the latest updates on travel requirements. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel  to Saudi Arabia overall due to terrorism and political tension. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Tunisia

If you're fully vaccinated you must show evidence of vaccination on arrival. If you're unvaccinated, or partially vaccinated and over the age of 18, you must present a negative PCR test not exceeding 48 hours of travel or a negative rapid antigen test within 24 hours prior to travel. Tests must include a QR code. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Tunisia overall due to the impacts of COVID-19.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Paraguay

If you're entering Paraguay and are fully vaccinated you no longer need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test on arrival. If you're aged 12 and older and are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, you'll need to provide a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken no more than 72 hours before boarding. You'll need to have comprehensive travel insurance which includes COVID-19 coverage. See 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Paraguay due to the high level of crime.

Taiwan

From 15 June, Taiwan will reduce the quarantine period for all international arrivals to 3 days (not including the day you arrive), followed by 4 days of self-monitoring. There's an initial cap of 25,000 arrivals per week. International transits at Taiwan's airports will also be permitted. You can enter Taiwan with an approved entry permit or visa, including if you're a foreign spouse or relative of a Taiwanese citizen, travelling for business, or a student enrolled in a degree at a Taiwanese university. We advise:  Exercise a high degree of caution in Taiwan due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Argentina

You no longer need to have a COVID-19 test or be vaccinated to enter Argentina. Non-resident foreign nationals are required to show evidence of medical insurance which includes COVID-19 coverage and fill out a declaration 48 hours prior to arrival. Anyone aged 13 and over may be required to show evidence of COVID-19 vaccination to attend certain events and locations. See 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Argentina due to the impacts of COVID-19.

United States of America

Effective 12 June 2022, you no longer need to test negative for COVID-19 prior to travelling to the US. Travellers aged 18 and over still need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination, unless they are US citizens, US permanent residents, or qualify for one of the exceptions to this requirement. COVID-19 remains a health risk. Various restrictions and public health measures remain in place and vary by location. Follow the advice of local authorities and take care to protect yourself from exposure to COVID-19. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the USA due to impacts of COVID-19.

Rwanda

To enter Rwanda, you must complete a passenger locator form and upload a negative COVID-19 test (RAT) or (PT-PCR) certificate taken within 72 hours of departure. An additional COVID-19 test (RAT) will be taken on arrival at your own cost (Frw 5,000 or $US 5). If you're eligible (12 years and above) for the COVID-19 vaccine, you're encouraged to be fully vaccinated before travel. Face masks aren't mandatory outdoors but are recommended indoors. Rwanda has a zero-tolerance policy for exporting positive COVID-19 cases. If you test positive for COVID-19 on arrival or during your time in Rwanda (even if you're fully vaccinated), the severity of your symptoms determine if you isolate in a government-run treatment centre or a hotel, at your own cost. You'll not be permitted to leave Rwanda until you receive a negative test result. Ongoing changes to restrictions are anticipated. Follow the advice of local authorities. Turkey

We've lowered our advice level for the south eastern provinces of Turkey. We continue to advise you exercise a high degree of caution in Turkey overall. All COVID-19 entry restrictions for Turkey have been lifted. You're no longer required to present proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results on arrival. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Turkey overall due to the high threat of terrorist attack. Higher levels apply.

Bolivia

To enter Bolivia, you need to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19 or present a negative COVID-19 test, as well as completing an online health declaration (see 'Travel'). Monitor media and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bolivia because of ongoing political and social tensions and the risk of serious crime.

Mozambique

There is an extreme risk of terrorism in Cabo Delgado. Terrorists are likely to target areas frequented by foreigners or where foreign companies operate and where expatriate staff reside. Australians in Cabo Delgado should leave the area if it's safe to do so. If you decide to remain in the area, maintain heightened security awareness, monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities. We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution  in Mozambique overall due to the risk of terrorism and high levels of serious crime. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.

Albania

All COVID-19 related travel requirements for entry to Albania have been lifted. Face masks must be worn indoors and on public transport. Follow the advice of local authorities and adhere to social distancing protocols. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Albania due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Solomon Islands

International flights continue on a limited basis for approved passengers. Domestic passenger flights have resumed. You still need to follow COVID-19 measures (see 'Travel'). Due to community transmission of COVID-19, further curfews or lockdowns for Honiara and other places are possible. Closely monitor and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel  to Solomon Islands due to the impacts of COVID-19 and possibility of further  civil unrest.

Chile

Chile has revised its COVID-19 action plan, including the management of its borders. To enter Chile, you must have a valid visa prior to arrival, medical insurance and a completed International Travel Affidavit. It is recommended (but not mandatory) that you complete a COVID-19 (PCR) test result before you arrive and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (with vaccines recognised in a Chilean mobility pass). See 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile due to potential demonstrations, civil unrest, and violence.

Iraq

The security situation throughout Iraq remains volatile. There's a risk the security situation could deteriorate further. Due to the volatile security environment and the ongoing threat of kidnappings, you should leave Iraq immediately by commercial means if it's safe to do so. If you're staying in Iraq, be alert and check media for updates on new threats. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, due to the volatile security situation and very high risk of violence, armed conflict, kidnapping and terrorist attack.

French Polynesia

Specific measures apply If you're travelling to or from French Polynesia. This depends on where you've been or where you're going. You'll need to provide proof that you're fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If your last dose of a COVID-19 vaccine was more than 9 months ago, you must have a booster dose to be considered fully vaccinated. If you're unvaccinated or aren't fully vaccinated and over 12 years old, you're required to show a negative result certificate from a COVID-19 (RAT) test within 48 hours of departure, or a RT-PCR test within 72 hours of flight departure. If you're departing from an EU country, you need to provide a recovery certificate from COVID-19. We advise:  Exercise a high degree of caution  in French Polynesia due to the impacts of COVID-19.

China

China’s entry requirements have changed. If you haven’t previously been diagnosed with, or recovered from COVID-19, you’ll need to take 2 nucleic acid tests - one 2 days prior to travel, and another on the day of travel. Some airlines may also require a Rapid Antigen Test on the day of travel. Confirm departure test requirements with your nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate and airline requirements with your travel agency. Recent COVID-19 outbreaks in Shanghai, Beijing and other large cities resulted in mass testing, residential lockdowns, closures of schools, businesses and suspension of public transport. Access to medical facilities and other essential services was disrupted. Ongoing response measures can include mandatory regular COVID-19 testing and the requirement to show negative COVID-19 results to gain access to some venues and other public areas. Tonga

Tonga is currently Orange under the Tonga COVID-19 Traffic Light Framework. This is the second highest level. You need to quarantine for 5 days when entering Tonga. A curfew is in place from 12am to 5am. Tonga has extended its COVID-19 restrictions nationwide until at least 4 June. Facemasks and social distancing are required in public, including at hospitality venues and on public transport. All businesses are open except for night clubs. Mobile phone and internet connectivity has been restored within Tongatapu, following the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano on 15 January, and work continues to improve communications in the outer islands including the Vava’u and Ha’apai groups. Monitor media for the latest developments and follow the instructions of local authorities. A state of emergency remains in place due to COVID-19. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Tonga due to the impacts of COVID-19.
