Cameroon

We’ve reviewed our advice for Cameroon. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. There is an outbreak of Marburg virus in the province of Kie Ntem in northern Equatorial Guinea, which borders southern Cameroon. Movement restrictions are in place in and around this area. The border between Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon is closed. If you're in the area, follow the advice of local authorities, monitor media for the latest information and comply with local movement restrictions (see Health). Taiwan

We've reviewed our advice for Taiwan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. If you test positive for COVID-19 and have mild symptoms, you no longer need to quarantine, but you are still advised to observe the 'Self-Health Management' protocols. Samoa

We've reviewed our advice for Samoa. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise you to exercise normal safety precautions. Samoa has lifted all COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Weekly flights to and from Australia continue. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Samoa.

Netherlands

There are no COVID-19-related restrictions for entry into the Netherlands. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands.

Kyrgyz Republic

We've reviewed our advice for the Kyrgyz Republic. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Visa-free entry is available for Australians. Entry requirements can change at short notice. Contact the nearest embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to confirm entry requirements. Gabon

Peru

We've reviewed our advice for Peru. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Due to weather conditions, a State of Emergency remains in place in northern coastal and some central parts of Peru. Travel services, including inter-provincial road travel, may be disrupted. Tourist attractions may be temporarily closed. Civil unrest continues to affect some regions in central and southern Peru. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the province of Puno as a State of Emergency remains in place. Take precautions to ensure your safety. Avoid areas affected by civil unrest. If protests develop where you are, leave if it's safe to. Follow the advice of local authorities. Contact your airline or travel provider for updates. Chile

If you're an Australian citizen, you must complete a pre-approved visa application to enter Chile. Ensure you apply well in advance to avoid issues on arrival. (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile due to potential demonstrations, civil unrest and violence.

Guam

A typhoon warning has been issued for tropical storm Mawar by the National Weather Service of Guam. Damaging winds are expected within the next 24 hours, leading up to the storm's landfall on Wednesday (24 May). The storm is likely to bring excessive rainfall and violent winds. Emergency shelters will be open from 8am on Tuesday (23 May). Follow the advice of local authorities, monitor local news and weather reports. Costa Rica

We’ve reviewed our advice for Costa Rica. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. You’re no longer required to complete the Health Pass or show proof of medical insurance to enter Costa Rica. (See 'Travel'). We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Costa Rica due to high levels of violent crime.

United States of America

You no longer need to take a COVID-19 test or show proof of COVID-19 vaccinations before travelling to the US. Check the latest entry, transit and exit requirements before travel. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the United States of America.

Brunei Darussalam

You're required to complete an E-Arrival Card online before arriving in and departing Brunei. Brunei continues to experience local transmission of COVID-19. Wear a mask when in crowded places and follow government health advice when in healthcare settings. (See 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Brunei.

Lesotho

There is a nationwide curfew between 10 pm and 4 am. Follow the advice of local authorities. Protests may occur and can become violent. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Lesotho overall due to the risk of violent crime.

Somalia

We've reviewed our advice for Somalia. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel. Terrorist attacks continue to occur. If you're in Somalia, leave as soon as possible. If you decide to stay despite our advice, get professional security advice. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Somalia due to armed conflict, the ongoing very high threat of terrorist attack and kidnapping, and dangerous levels of violent crime.

Zambia

You'll need a visa to enter Zambia. If you're visiting Zambia for less than 90 days, you don't need a visa in advance and can obtain a visa on arrival. All visa fees have been removed for Australian passport holders visiting Zambia (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Zambia. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Venezuela

Do not travel to Venezuela due to the unstable political and economic situation, shortages of food, water, medicine and petrol, and high levels of violent crime. Bangladesh

Tropical Cyclone Mocha is expected to make landfall near the Bangladesh and Myanmar border on 14 May 2023. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are likely. Essential services may be disrupted. If you are in the affected area follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local weather and media for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh overall due to the high threat of terrorist attack. Higher levels apply in some areas.  

Croatia

Croatia is part of the Schengen Area and uses the euro as its official currency. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Croatia.

Canada

There's a state of emergency in Alberta due to several wildfires across the province. Evacuation orders have been issued. Monitor media for updates and follow the advice of local authorities. See 'Safety'. We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in Canada.

Guinea

Recent protests in Conakry and other towns in Guinea have turned violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries. There is potential for further protests to take place. There are currently heightened political and social tensions, including in the capital Conakry, with the potential for the situation to deteriorate without warning. Avoid protests and public gatherings and remain vigilant. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media for updates. The Australian High Commission in Accra has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Guinea. We advise:  Exercise a high degree of caution in Guinea overall due to political and social tensions that can lead to violence. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Solomon Islands

Political unrest can happen in Honiara during sittings of Parliament, elections and times of political uncertainty. Demonstrations can turn violent quickly. Avoid protests and political gatherings. If you're fully vaccinated, most COVID-19 travel restrictions have been removed. If you're unvaccinated and over 12 years of age, you should contact a Solomon Islands High Commission or Consulate before you travel (see 'Travel'). The Solomon Islands Government has suspended an online Travel Authorization process for foreigners until further notice. The hyperbaric chamber in Honiara is currently out of operation. If you experience decompression sickness (DCS) as a result of scuba diving, specialised transport will be required to transfer you to another country for treatment. There is an increased risk of malaria in densely populated areas of Honiara. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Solomon Islands.

Algeria

We’ve reviewed our advice for Algeria. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise exercise a high degree of caution overall due to the high threat of terrorist attack and civil unrest. Tanzania

The Australian Consulate has opened in Dar es Salaam. Limited consular services will be offered. You can still access full consular assistance from the Australian High Commission in Kenya. Terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks anywhere in Tanzania. Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by Westerners. Be alert to your surroundings and pay close attention to your personal security. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative RT-PCR tests results are no longer needed to enter Tanzania. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall due to the risk of serious crime.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Portugal

We've reviewed our travel advice for Portugal. We haven't changed the level, exercise normal safety precautions. All COVID-19 travel restrictions for entry into Portugal have been removed, and face masks are no longer required (see 'Travel' and 'Health'). World Youth Day will be held in Lisbon, Fatima and surrounding areas in early August. You can expect significant congestion and possible delays during this period (see 'Travel'). Tonga

We’ve reviewed our advice for Tonga. We've lowered the advice level. We now advise exercise normal safety precautions. You no longer need to provide proof of COVID–19 vaccinations to travel to Tonga. If you test positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Tonga, you must self-isolate for 5 days. Some domestic flight services may be impacted by aircraft availability. Israel and the Palestinian Territories

Following Israel Defence Forces operations in Gaza on 9 May, local authorities advise that you should remain close to a designated shelter if you’re in areas close to Gaza. Be alert and follow the advice of local authorities. Monitor media and public safety information through the National Emergency Portal (accessible in Israel only). Check with your travel provider before travelling. See 'Safety'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Israel and the Palestinian Territories overall due to civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, rocket fire and military confrontation. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Kuwait

We've reviewed our advice for Kuwait. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Kuwait due to the possibility of terrorist attacks.

India

Curfews and restrictions have been imposed in parts of Manipur following violent demonstrations, resulting in casualties. Security agencies have increased their presence in the region. Mobile internet services are suspended and transport services have been disrupted. Further restrictions may be imposed at short notice. If you are in Manipur you should avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, monitor local media for updates, follow the advice of local authorities, and take official warnings seriously. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in India overall due to the high threat of terrorist activity, civil unrest and crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Italy

We've reviewed our travel advice for Italy. We've lowered the level of advice. We now advise exercise normal safety precautions. There are no COVID-19-related travel restrictions to enter Italy. Some venues, such as health facilities, still require you to wear face masks. We now advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Italy.  

Thailand

General elections will be held on Sunday 14 May. Smaller-scale advance voting will take place on Sunday 7 May. No major disruptions to public services are expected. Alcohol sales will be banned throughout Thailand on the day of early voting (from 6pm on 6 May until 6pm on 7 May) and on Election Day (from 6pm on 13 May to 6pm on 14 May). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution to Thailand overall due to the possibility of civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, including in Bangkok and Phuket.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Marshall Islands

The Marshall Islands have declared a state of emergency following the suspension of the primary air cargo provider into the country. Medical and fresh food supplies may become unavailable with little notice. Consider maintaining stocks of non-perishable food, and other essential items, including medicine and first aid supplies.  We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Marshall Islands due to local COVID-19 related restrictions and limited healthcare.

Kenya

Protests can be expected across Kenya. Avoid protests and political gatherings. Follow the advice of local authorities. Terrorists maintain a strong interest in attacking foreigners in Nairobi and other major population centres in Kenya. Attacks could occur at any time and with little or no warning. French Polynesia

Cyclone season is expected from May to September this year. You don't need to take a COVID-19 test before travelling to French Polynesia. Check the advice of local authorities before travelling. We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in French Polynesia.

Norway

Turkmenistan

Some regular international commercial flights are now operating into and out of Turkmenistan. If you're allowed to enter Turkmenistan, you'll need to present evidence of vaccination or antibodies to COVID-19. You'll also be required to take a COVID-19 (PCR) test on arrival and undertake 7-day quarantine in a state-run facility if you test positive. A number of informal restrictions have been introduced on women’s appearance and behaviour (see 'Local Laws'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Turkmenistan overall due to entry restrictions and limited transportation options. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mauritius

Before travelling to Mauritius, you should fill out the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form and keep a printed copy to present to health authorities when you arrive (see 'Travel'). If you haven’t filled out the form, you’ll need to complete an Immigration Disembarkation Card on arrival. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Mauritius.
