United Kingdom

Heathrow airport has lifted the passenger number cap. Restrictions may be reintroduced. Stay in touch with your airline for the latest information. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the UK due to the threat of terrorism.

South Korea (Republic of Korea)

On 29 October (local time) a crowd crush occurred at a Halloween event in the Itaewon district of Seoul with reports of deaths and injuries. Australians in Seoul are encouraged to check in with friends and family to let them know their whereabouts. Australians in need of consular assistance or concerned about the welfare of loved ones can call DFAT’s 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 (in Australia) or +61 2 6261 3305 (outside Australia). South Korea’s President Yoon has announced a period of national mourning. Monitor media for updates and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in South Korea.

Germany

We've reviewed the travel advice for Germany. We haven't changed the level, exercise a high degree of caution, You can travel to Germany from Australia for all purposes, including tourism. There are no COVID-19 related restrictions for entry to Germany. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Germany due to the threat of terrorism.

Chad

The Government announced a curfew from 6pm to 6am in cities across Chad, including the capital, N'Djamena. There are ongoing violent protests occurring, which have resulted in many casualties. If you're in Chad, take shelter, remain vigilant and closely monitor local media. Avoid all conflict zones, large gatherings, demonstrations and protests. Follow the advice of local authorities, including for the curfew orders announced. Our ability to provide consular services in Chad is extremely limited. For consular assistance, contact the Australian Embassy in Paris (see 'Local contacts'). We continue to advise: Do not travel  to Chad overall due to the significant risk of terrorism, crime and civil unrest. Other levels apply in some areas.

Haiti

We now advise do not travel to the Department of Ouest (which includes Port-au-Prince) due to the very high levels of crime, kidnapping and the volatile security situation. For other areas of Haiti, we continue to advise reconsider your need to travel due to the volatile security situation and the high risk of violent crime. There's also currently a serious cholera outbreak in Haiti. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Haiti overall due to  the volatile security situation and the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Russia

Do not travel to Russia due to the security environment and the impacts of the military conflict with Ukraine. There are limited transportation options, restrictions on financial transactions and possible shortages of essential products and services. The security situation could deteriorate further with little warning. Security incidents often occur in the regions of Russia bordering Ukraine, including explosions and large fires. Do not attempt to travel to the Russia-Ukraine border or cross into Ukraine from Russia. Laws have been passed that severely inhibit free speech related to the military conflict with Ukraine and Russian military forces. Avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments. Russian authorities may adopt a more negative attitude towards foreigners in Russia and enforce local laws in an arbitrary manner. Spain

All COVID-19 travel restrictions for entry into Spain have been removed. Some COVID-19 safety measures, such as wearing of masks on public transport, remain in place. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Spain.

Saudi Arabia

We've reviewed our travel advice for Saudi Arabia. We haven't changed the level of our advice, reconsider your need to travel. Some COVID-19 entry requirements have been lifted. You no longer need to quarantine on arrival or present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result. Check with your nearest Saudi Arabia embassy or consulate for the latest updates on travel requirements. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel  to Saudi Arabia overall due to terrorism and political tension. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Uganda

There's an Ebola outbreak in Uganda. We now advise do not travel to Mubende and Kassanda Districts. A curfew and travel restrictions are in place. See 'Health' and 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Uganda overall due to the threat of terrorist attack, civil unrest and criminal activity. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Hong Kong

We've reviewed our advice for Hong Kong. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. You no longer need to quarantine in a designated hotel on arrival in Hong Kong, but you'll be subject to three days of medical surveillance, followed by four days of self-monitoring. During medical surveillance, you’ll be restricted from entering certain premises under the Vaccine Pass scheme, including restaurants and bars. Non-Hong Kong residents aged 12 or above must be fully vaccinated or have obtained a medical exemption certificate to enter Hong Kong. You'll need to complete the online health declaration and have evidence of a negative COVID-19 (RAT) test issued within 24 hours of boarding your flight. You'll need to take a COVID-19 (RAT) as well as (PCR) test on arrival. You'll also need to take multiple COVID-19 tests during the medical surveillance and self-monitoring period. Macau

We've reviewed our advice for Macau. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Macau has strict entry requirements in place, including hotel quarantine, multiple COVID-19 (PCR) tests and proof of COVID-19 vaccination. If you're travelling to Macau, continue to monitor entry requirements on the Macau Immigration Service website. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Macau due to ongoing local COVID-19 restrictions.

Syria

Entry and exit measures for Syria may change without notice. You don't need a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of vaccination to enter. If you’re planning to cross to Lebanon, contact Lebanese authorities for requirements. The security situation remains extremely volatile. If you're in Syria, leave as soon as possible. We advise: Do not travel to Syria due to the extremely dangerous security situation. Armed conflict is ongoing and air strikes, kidnappings and terrorist attacks are common.

China

We've reviewed our advice for China. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. China's entry requirements and procedures have changed. You'll be required to have nucleic acid tests prior to departure. You should confirm pre-departure requirements with your nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate and your travel agency. You'll be subject to centralised quarantine on entry to China, with an additional period of health monitoring that will be determined by the local authorities at the port of entry and final destination in China. Recent COVID-19 outbreaks have resulted in mass testing, residential lockdowns, closures of schools and suspension of public transport. Cyprus

All COVID-19 entry restrictions have been removed, regardless of your vaccination status. You're no longer required to take a COVID-19 test before arrival. You'll need a 'SafePass' and a face mask to access some services such as aged care and other medical facilities. Your Australian International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (ICVC) must be presented in hard copy with photo identification. If you contract COVID-19 while in Cyprus, you'll be transferred to a quarantine facility (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Cyprus due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Nigeria

There have been significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure caused by severe flooding. Essential services may be disrupted. Follow the advice of local authorities and check the media for updates. The potential for terrorism, kidnapping, crime and civil unrest remains high throughout Nigeria. If, despite our advice, you undertake travel within Nigeria, research routes and get professional security advice and support before departing. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall, including the capital Abuja and surrounding areas, due to high threats of terrorist attack and kidnapping, the volatile security situation, possible violent civil unrest and high levels of violent crime. Philippines

If you're fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one booster, you don't need to undergo pre-departure COVID-19 testing. If you aren't fully vaccinated with one booster, you must provide a negative COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test within 48 hours or a negative COVID-19 (RAT) test administered and certified by a health care professional within 24 hours to enter. Children may be exempt from this requirement. If you're fully vaccinated, you can enter the Philippines without a visa or quarantine, provided you meet specific requirements. Follow the Philippines Department of Tourism for the latest advice. You should also confirm the rules for your airline, as it may vary between airlines. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the Philippines overall due to crime and terrorism. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Chile

Visa requirements and timeframes have been revised (see 'Travel'). There are also new COVID-19 health entry requirements. The State of Emergency declaration in 'Macro Zona Sur’ has been updated (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile due to potential demonstrations, civil unrest and violence.

Portugal

You don't need a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test to enter Portugal. Face masks are required in health care facilities, hospitals and aged care homes. Community transmission of COVID-19 remains high (see 'Health'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Portugal.

Botswana

Botswana no longer has COVID-19 restrictions on entry. You no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a COVID-19 test to enter Botswana. Follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Botswana due to restrictions on entry and local health measures.

Azerbaijan

We've reviewed the travel advice for Azerbaijan. We haven't changed the level, exercise a high degree of caution. You must present proof that you've been fully vaccinated to enter Azerbaijan. If you're not fully vaccinated, you'll need to show proof of immunity to COVID-19. Land border crossings remain closed. Australian citizens and residence permit holders can only enter and exit Azerbaijan by air. There are currently no restrictions on travel within Azerbaijan. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Azerbaijan overall  due to the unpredictable security situation and ongoing tension along the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Brazil

There's a risk of violent protests breaking out during and immediately after the second round of presidential elections on 30 October. Monitor the media, follow the instructions of local authorities and review our guidance on staying safe when there are demonstrations (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high crime rates.

Guinea

We've reviewed our advice for Guinea. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. There are currently heightened political tensions, including in the capital Conakry, with the potential for the situation to deteriorate without warning. You should exercise caution, remain vigilant and monitor local media. The Australian High Commission in Accra has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Guinea. We advise:  Exercise a high degree of caution in Guinea overall due to political and social tensions that can lead to violence. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

We've reviewed our travel advice, we haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. To enter Côte d'Ivoire, you no longer need proof of a negative COVID-19 test result if you’re fully vaccinated. If you’re not fully vaccinated, you’ll need evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours of arrival. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Côte d'Ivoire overall due to the high levels of violent crime and the possibility of civil unrest.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Moldova

We've reviewed the travel advice for Moldova. We haven't changed the level, reconsider your need to travel. Higher levels apply in some areas. Russia's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine is ongoing. Moldova continues to be under a nationwide state of emergency due to the war in Ukraine. You should follow the instructions of the local authorities at all times. If you've arrived in Moldova from Ukraine and need assistance, contact the Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 in Australia or +61 2 6261 3305 outside Australia. Peru

Mask-wearing is no longer mandatory in most situations in Peru. They must still be worn in public transportation, in health centres, where ventilation is inadequate, or for people experiencing respiratory symptoms. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Peru overall due to the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Italy

All COVID-19 related entry restrictions into Italy have been lifted. Face masks are required on public transport. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Italy due to the strained health care system.  

Ukraine

We continue to advise you do not travel to Ukraine due to the volatile security environment and military conflict. If you're currently in Ukraine, we urge you to depart if it's safe to do so. Russia launched attacks against Ukraine’s civilian and government infrastructure on 10 October. Russian strikes in Ukraine pose a continued threat to civilians and civilian infrastructure. Russian strikes also pose a threat to Ukraine’s active nuclear power plants, with particular concern for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is ongoing. Colombia

Tropical storm Julia is crossing northern Colombia and is forecast to impact the archipelago of San Andrés over the weekend of 8-9 October 2022. Tourists have been ordered to evacuate the islands and a curfew has been imposed. Flights to/from the islands may be affected. If you are in the area, monitor local news and follow the instructions of local authorities. We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution  in Colombia due to high levels of crime and terrorism. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mongolia

We've reviewed our advice for Mongolia. We've lowered the level of our advice. We now advise you exercise normal safety precautions. Mongolia's border is open, but Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar remains the only viable port of entry and exit. You're not required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test or quarantine on arrival. All major domestic COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. We now advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Mongolia.

New Zealand

We've reviewed our advice for New Zealand. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise you exercise normal safety precautions. We now advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in New Zealand.

Morocco

You're no longer required to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test or COVID-19 vaccination certificate to enter Morocco (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Morocco overall due to the high risk of terrorist attacks.

Argentina

You're no longer required to complete a statutory declaration to enter or exit Argentina. We now advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Argentina.

Iran

We continue to advise you do not travel to Iran. Protests continue around the country and there's been an increase in the number of foreign nationals arrested. Medical evacuation may be difficult. If you're in Iran, we recommend you leave. Airlines may cancel or reduce their operations to and from Iran at short notice. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Iran as the security situation remains volatile and there's a high risk you could be arbitrarily detained or arrested.

Sri Lanka

We've reviewed our advice for Sri Lanka. We've lowered the travel advice level. We now advise you exercise a high degree of caution. Sri Lanka is experiencing an economic crisis which has led to shortages of fuel, cooking gas, food and medicines. Power cuts regularly occur due to electricity rationing. Public demonstrations can occur throughout Sri Lanka. Several violent incidents have taken place during large demonstrations. Avoid areas impacted by demonstrations. We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the threat of civil unrest, shortages of fuel and other supplies and the risk of terrorism.

Cambodia

Cambodia has recommenced the Visa-on-Arrival program. You no longer need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or tests to enter Cambodia. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Cambodia.

Samoa

Samoa has lifted all COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Weekly flights to and from Australia continue. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Samoa due to limited healthcare systems. 

Netherlands

There's no COVID-19 related restrictions or requirements if you're entering the Netherlands, including if you're arriving from countries outside the EU/Schengen Area. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Netherlands.

Estonia

Latvia
