Lebanon

We're reviewed our travel advice for Lebanon. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel due to the security environment. Higher levels apply. There have been armed clashes in some areas of Lebanon, including Beirut. Protests occur regularly and can turn violent. The ongoing economic crisis and occasional industrial strikes have affected access to some goods and services, including banks. If you're caught in civil unrest, stay inside and follow the advice of local authorities. Terrorist attacks could occur anytime and anywhere, including in Beirut (see 'Terrorism'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Lebanon overall due to the changed security environment. Higher levels apply in some areas.

New Caledonia

A restricted swimming zone at Baie des Citrons will be open daily from 8:45am to 4pm. All other beaches in Noumea remain closed until 31 December (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in New Caledonia.

France

Ongoing protests are occurring across France, including in Paris, disrupting traffic and public transport. Some recent demonstrations have turned violent, leading to the destruction of public and private property, the burning of vehicles and garbage in the streets, and the unsafe use of fireworks. In some of these incidents, clashes with police have occurred, resulting in the use of tear gas. Avoid all demonstrations and areas with significant police activity. Be particularly vigilant at night. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in France due to the threat of terrorism.

Egypt

We've reviewed our advice for Egypt. We haven't changed the level of our advice, reconsider your need to travel. Higher levels apply in some areas. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Egypt overall due to the risk of terrorist attack. Other levels apply in some areas.  

Lithuania

We've reviewed our travel advice for Lithuania and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. Expect enhanced security measures and possible travel disruptions in the lead-up to and during the NATO Summit being held in Vilnius on 11-12 July (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Lithuania.  

Gabon

We’ve reviewed our advice for Gabon. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Gabon overall due to the risk of violent crime.

Peru

We've reviewed our advice for Peru. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Due to weather conditions, a State of Emergency remains in place in northern coastal and some central parts of Peru. Travel services, including inter-provincial road travel, may be disrupted. Tourist attractions may be temporarily closed. Civil unrest continues to affect some regions in central and southern Peru. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the province of Puno as a State of Emergency remains in place. Take precautions to ensure your safety. Avoid areas affected by civil unrest. If protests develop where you are, leave if it's safe to. Follow the advice of local authorities. Contact your airline or travel provider for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Peru overall due to the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Papua New Guinea

We've reviewed our advice for Papua New Guinea, we haven't changed the overall level of advice, exercise a high degree of caution. We've expanded the reconsider your need to travel regions to include all of the Southern Highlands and Hela Province. Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands and all of Enga Province remain reconsider your need to travel. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Papua New Guinea overall due to high levels of serious crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Russia

We've reviewed our advice for Russia. We continue to advise do not travel to Russia due to the security environment and the impacts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Russia. Russia has seen several terrorist attacks, which have caused large casualty numbers, including in Moscow and St Petersburg. Russia's aviation has also been targeted. Attacks may occur with little or no warning. The security situation could deteriorate further with little warning. Security incidents often occur in the regions of Russia bordering Ukraine, including explosions and large fires. Do not attempt to travel to the Russia-Ukraine border or cross into Ukraine from Russia. Russian authorities may adopt a more negative attitude towards foreigners in Russia and enforce local laws in an arbitrary manner. Ghana

You no longer need to provide a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test to enter Ghana. You may still need to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 upon arrival. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana overall due to crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.  

Costa Rica

We’ve reviewed our advice for Costa Rica. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. You’re no longer required to complete the Health Pass or show proof of medical insurance to enter Costa Rica. (See 'Travel'). We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Costa Rica due to high levels of violent crime.

Niger

We've reviewed our advice for Niger. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel. The Australian High Commission in Abuja has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Niger. We continue to advise:  Do not travel to Niger due to the high threat of kidnapping, terrorist attack, crime and the volatile security environment.

Senegal

Recent protests across Senegal have turned violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Further demonstrations and increased civil unrest will likely occur in Dakar and other major cities in the lead-up to the February 2024 elections. Avoid protests and public gatherings and remain vigilant. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media for updates. The Australian High Commission in Accra currently has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Senegal. Check the latest information for travel to and from Senegal (see ‘Travel’). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal overall due to the threat of criminal activity and civil unrest. Higher levels apply.

Pakistan

Tropical Cyclone Biparjoy is due to make landfall in the east of Sindh province on 14 June. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are likely. Essential services may be disrupted. Evacuations of coastal areas are underway. If you're in an affected area, follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local weather and media for updates. There are ongoing protests in Pakistan. Avoid demonstrations and protests. These can turn violent. The security situation is evolving and remains unpredictable. Authorities may suspend internet and mobile phone networks and close roads and highways at short notice. Transit to and from Islamabad International Airport may be impeded by protest activity. Monitor media for information on the latest developments and follow the instructions of local authorities. See Safety. Terrorist groups hostile to foreign interests operate in Pakistan. Mali

There's a very high risk of kidnapping in Mali. Armed robbery and carjackings also occur, particularly in the north. Several groups target foreigners. Ransoms paid to kidnappers fund terrorism. Get professional security advice before you travel. Keep vehicle doors and windows locked, even when moving. There is a high risk of terrorist attacks. This has increased since mid-July 2022 in central and southern Mali, including in Bamako. Terrorists have primarily targeted security forces facilities, resulting in casualties, including civilians. The Canadian Embassy can provide limited emergency consular assistance to Australians (see 'Full Advice > Local contacts'). We continue to advise: Do not travel to Mali due to the high risk of terrorist attack and kidnapping.

Sri Lanka

We've reviewed our advice for Sri Lanka. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Public demonstrations can occur throughout Sri Lanka and may become violent. Avoid areas impacted by demonstrations. There are shortages of some imported foods and medicines in Sri Lanka. We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the threat of public demonstrations, shortages of some imported medicines and the risk of terrorism. 

India

Tropical Cyclone Biparjoy is due to make landfall in the state of Gujarat on 14 June. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are likely. Essential services may be disrupted. Evacuations of coastal areas are underway. If you're in an affected area, follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local weather and media for updates. Curfews and restrictions continue in parts of Manipur following violent demonstrations, resulting in casualties. Security agencies have increased their presence in the region. Mobile internet services remain suspended, and transport services have been disrupted. Further restrictions may be imposed at short notice. If you're in Manipur, avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities, take official warnings seriously and monitor local media for updates. Lesotho

We've reviewed our advice for Lesotho. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Pay close attention to your personal security and the current health situation. Brazil

From 1 October, Australian passport holders will require a visa to enter Brazil (see 'Travel'). In case of protests, monitor the media and follow instructions of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high crime rates.

Estonia

We've reviewed the travel advice for Estonia. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Estonia.

Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

All COVID-19 entry requirements have been removed. You may be subject to temperature checks upon arrival. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Côte d'Ivoire overall due to the high levels of violent crime and the possibility of civil unrest.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Macau

We've reviewed our advice for Macau. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Macau's National Security Law could be interpreted broadly, and you could break the law without intending to. If you're concerned about the law, reconsider your need to remain in Macau (see 'Local laws'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Macau.

China

We've reviewed our advice for China. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. If you're arriving on an international flight into China, you can take a rapid antigen self-test (RAT) within 48 hours before boarding. As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on the grounds of ‘endangering national security’. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention or harsh enforcement of local laws, including broadly defined National Security Laws. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in China overall.  Other levels apply in some areas.

Iraq

We've reviewed our advice for Iraq. We haven't changed the level of our advice, do not travel. The security situation throughout Iraq remains volatile. Due to the security environment and the ongoing threat of kidnappings, you should leave Iraq immediately by commercial means, if it's safe to do so. If you're staying in Iraq, be alert and check media for updates on new threats see ('Safety'). We continue to advise: Do not travel to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, due to the volatile security situation and very high risk of violence, armed conflict, kidnapping and terrorist attack.

Mexico
