On 29 July the New Zealand government announced plans to recover the cost of managed isolation for some travellers. You may be required to pay for your managed isolation if travelling to New Zealand. New bookings on flights to and from Australia with Air New Zealand are currently on hold, due to the caps on the number of passengers allowed into both countries. Airlines manage the sale of tickets in line with the caps, not government. If you have a flight booked between Australia and New Zealand, contact your airline or travel agent for information on potential changes to your flight. Due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, a full lockdown is in place in the Analamanga region, including Anatanarivo, with limits on public transport and movement. Facemasks are mandatory in this region. Essential services are open and businesses may operate under strict conditions within restricted times. There are curfews in some regions, and travel in and out of these regions is suspended (see 'Travel' for details). There is still a state of emergency for the whole of Madagascar. Flights are suspended. Continue to follow the advice of local authorities, as measures may change with little notice. We advise: Do not travel to Madagascar.

Brazil has extended the temporary closure of its land and sea borders, but is allowing entry by air, if you can show proof of valid health insurance for your visit (see ‘Travel’ and ‘COVID-19’ for details). The incidence of COVID-19 in Brazil remains high. Consider whether you have enough support and access to effective health services if you're staying. If in doubt, we recommend you return to Australia, but be prepared for possible delays given flight availability. Lithuania has restricted visitors entering, unless you’re coming from an approved country. You may be required to self-isolate on arrival for 14 days. Check with your airline and nearest Lithuanian mission on entry requirements. From 1 August, it's mandatory to wear a face mask at indoor public places, in retail outlets and on public transport. Visa exemptions due to the state of emergency will end on 17 August. If you’re in Lithuania, make sure you legalise your visa or make plans to leave before this date. We advise: Do not travel to Lithuania.  

Malta has restricted visitors entering, unless you've travelled from an approved area and have stayed there for 2 weeks before entering. Travel into the EU and Schengen Area is restricted. You may be granted an exemption if you're not from an approved area and your travel is for essential purposes. In those cases, you'll need to provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within 7 days of travel and you'll need to quarantine for 14 days on arrival at your own cost. You must wear face masks or visors in retail outlets and on public transport. We advise: Do not travel  to Malta.

Djibouti has implemented measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You'll be required to undergo a COVID-19 test on arrival. Face coverings must be worn where social distancing is not possible. Passenger trains between Djibouti and Ethiopia are suspended. We advise: Do not travel to Djibouti.  

Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration (DGI) will no longer automatically extend expired visas or stay permits under COVID-19 emergency arrangements. To confirm your stay permit's validity and renewal procedures, contact DGI before 12 August 2020. If you're outside Indonesia with an expired stay permit, contact both DGI and your nearest Indonesian embassy or consulate. Overstaying your permit may result in fines, detention and/or deportation. Flight options to Australia are already very limited and may reduce further (See 'Travel'). COVID-19 is widespread in Indonesia with continuing transmission across the country. Domestic travel restrictions and social distancing measures remain in place for many locations. Follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor media for the latest update. We advise: Do not travel to Indonesia, including Bali.

If you're arriving in Greece from certain countries, you'll have to produce a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours. You also have to complete an online Passenger Locator Form (PLF) at least 24 hours before you arrive. You'll receive a barcode by email that must be presented for scanning at the airport (see Travel). The wearing of masks in all indoor spaces is now mandatory. Follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Do not travel to Greece.

Seychelles airport is open to private jets and chartered passenger flights with passengers from approved countries. From 1 August it'll re-open to commercial passenger flights. You'll only be able to enter if coming from an approved country where you have been for at least 14 days and can show a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before travel. If allowed to enter, you must stay at licenced accommodation establishments or liveabords. Yachts, superyachts and fishing vessels are allowed entry to Seychelles. Monitor the media for updates, stay in touch with airlines and your travel agent on departure options and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Do not travel to Seychelles.

There are ongoing protests in a number of cities. Protestor numbers in the larger cities can swell quickly. Avoid all demonstrations and protests due to the ongoing potential for violence. Monitor the media for information on the latest developments and follow the instructions of local authorities, including by obeying any curfews. We advise: Do not travel to  the United States of America, including Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Hawaiian Islands.

COVID-19 restrictions in Guatemala are slowly easing, depending on local conditions. However, a national curfew is still in place and measures can change quickly. If you're leaving Guatemala, you must show a letter of safe passage (salvoconducto) from the Guatemalan Government to travel to your departure location, such as the airport. The letter will take at least 72 hours to be issued and lengthier delays are possible. Apply as early as possible. The Australian Embassy in Mexico can help you get it. You could be fined if you don't respect local laws, including quarantine and movement restrictions. If you wish to leave Guatemala, follow the Australian Embassy in Mexico on social media for regular updates on any departure options such as unscheduled flights. The land border between Guatemala and Mexico has become more dangerous. It's not safe to cross by land. We advise: Do not travel to Guatemala .

Iraq has implemented a range of measures in response to COVID-19, including travel restrictions, lockdowns and curfews. International flights have resumed at reduced capacity. But these can be postponed or cancelled at short notice. If you're travelling to Iraq despite our advice, you must carry a negative COVID-19 certificate issued within 48 hours of departure. With the volatile security environment and the ongoing threat of kidnappings, we advise you to leave Iraq as soon as you are able to do so. If you're staying in Iraq, be alert and check media for updates on new threats. We haven't changed our level of advice: Do not travel to Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, due to the volatile security situation and very high risk of violence, armed conflict, kidnapping and terrorist attack.  

If you're travelling to the Central African Republic, despite our advice, you must self-isolate for 21 days on arrival. You must wear a face covering. Follow the advice of local authorities and minimise your risk of exposure to COVID-19. We haven't changed our level of advice: Do not travel  to the Central African Republic due to the dangerous security situation, activities of armed groups and high levels of serious crime.

Commercial flights out of Nicaragua are mostly suspended. Flight schedules and border restrictions are changing at short notice. Follow the Australian Embassy in Mexico on social media for flight updates. Where flights do become available, book directly with the airline. If you plan to enter Nicaragua, you must present a negative COVID-Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test taken within 72 hours prior to entry or 96 hours prior to entry if you're travelling from Asia, Africa or Oceania. If you're granted entry, you'll be monitored by phone by health officials for 14 days. You'll be denied entry if you have respiratory disease symptoms or a fever. We advise: Do not travel to Nicaragua.

You can enter Cyprus if you've travelled directly from a Category A or B country. If you’ve been to or had an overnight transit in a Category C or any other country in the preceding 14 days, you won’t be allowed to enter, unless you have the right to live and work in Cyprus, or have a special permission (see Travel). Crossings into Turkish-Cypriot administered north is only possible for permanent legal residents with a negative COVID-19 test issued in English within 72 hours. Turkish-Cypriot authorities may test you for COVID-19 and quarantine you for 14 days if you’ve been outside of Cyprus within the previous 14 days. Follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Do not travel to Cyprus.

If you normally reside in Qatar but are currently overseas, you can apply to return to Qatar from 1 August. If you're travelling to Qatar from a country designated as 'COVID low risk' you may be able to quarantine at home under strict conditions. For more information, call 109 from inside Qatar or +974 44069999 from outside Qatar, or contact the nearest Qatari embassy or consulate. Australians can transit through Qatar. We advise: Do not travel to Qatar.
