Montenegro

We've reviewed our travel advice for Montenegro and we continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Montenegro.

Gabon

There have been reports of a military takeover in Gabon. Protests and civil unrest are expected.  A nationwide curfew is in place from 7pm to 6am. Telecommunications may be disrupted. Gabon's borders have closed, and flights have been cancelled until further notice. Stay indoors, avoid protests and government buildings and monitor local media for updates.  We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Gabon overall due to the risk of violent crime.

New Caledonia

We've reviewed the travel advice for New Caledonia and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. A restricted swimming zone at Baie des Citrons in Noumea is open daily from 8:45am to 4pm. All other beaches in Noumea remain closed until 31 December (see 'Safety'). China

We've reviewed our advice for China. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on the grounds of ‘endangering national security’. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention or harsh enforcement of local laws, including broadly defined National Security Laws. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in China overall.  Other levels apply in some areas.

Namibia

We've reviewed our advice for Namibia. We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in Namibia. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions.  

Brazil

From 10 January 2024, Australian passport holders will require a visa to enter Brazil (see 'Travel'). In case of protests, monitor the media and follow instructions of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high crime rates.

Italy

Pay extra attention to your personal belongings when checking into hotels. There's been an increase in property theft at hotel reception areas this year. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Italy.  

Maldives

Maldives’ presidential election is scheduled for 9 September and, if required, a second round of voting will be held on 30 September. Be aware of your surroundings, avoid large crowds and demonstrations, and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Maldives due to the threat of civil unrest and terrorism.  

Denmark

We've reviewed our travel advice for Denmark. We have raised the level of advice. We now advise exercise a high degree of caution due to the threat of terrorism. Several groups have called for attacks on Denmark in retaliation to ongoing Quran burnings (see Safety). We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Denmark overall.

Türkiye

Some parts of Türkiye are experiencing bushfires, including the Canakkale area, which includes Gallipoli. Conditions can change quickly. Monitor the local media and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Türkiye overall due to the high threat of terrorist attack. Higher levels apply.

Bulgaria

Heatwaves and wildfires occur throughout the summer period in Bulgaria. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities if you're in an area threatened by fire. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Bulgaria.

Hong Kong

We've reviewed our advice for Hong Kong and continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution. Hong Kong's National Security Law could be interpreted broadly, and you could break the law without intending to (see 'Local laws'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Hong Kong.

Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

We've reviewed our advice for Côte d'Ivoire and continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply. The Gambia

South Korea (Republic of Korea)

If you're entering South Korea from Australia, you're no longer required to register your personal information in Korea's Advance COVID-19 Defence (Q-code) system (see 'Travel'). Civil Emergency Drills are recommencing from 23 August. Follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in South Korea.

France

We've reviewed the travel advice for France. We continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution. France will host the Rugby World Cup from 8 September to 28 October. Expect significant travel delays and enhanced security in Paris and other major cities throughout this period. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in France due to the threat of terrorism.

Saudi Arabia

We've reviewed our advice for Saudi Arabia and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Fiji

Vanuatu

Marshall Islands

Sri Lanka

We've reviewed our advice for Sri Lanka. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Public demonstrations can occur throughout Sri Lanka and may become violent. Avoid areas impacted by demonstrations. There are shortages of some imported foods and medicines in Sri Lanka. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the threat of public demonstrations, shortages of some imported medicines and security risks. 

Russia

Due to recent military tensions additional security restrictions, including some limitations on movement may remain in place in some regions. Further measures may be implemented at short notice. If you're in an affected area, follow the advice of local authorities. The security situation could deteriorate further with little warning. If you're in Russia, leave immediately using the limited commercial options available or private means if it's safe to do so. Departure routes from Russia may become disrupted at short notice. Review your personal security plans and carefully consider the safest means and route to depart. You're responsible for your own safety and that of your family. Make sure your travel documents are up to date. Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Russia. Russia has seen several terrorist attacks, which have caused large casualty numbers, including in Moscow and St Petersburg. Russia's aviation has also been targeted. Atta...

Sweden

We continue to advise you exercise a high degree of caution in Sweden. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sweden due to the threat of terrorism.

Ethiopia

We now advise do not travel to the city of Lalibela due to the security situation. On 1 August local Amhara militia (Fano) took control of several areas of Lalibela in North Wollo Zone in Amhara Regional State. Local authorities advise against all road travel to Lalibela until further notice and flights to and from Lalibela have been suspended. Mobile and internet networks may be disrupted. Stay vigilant and monitor local media for the latest update. Follow the advice of local authorities.   We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Ethiopia overall due to the ongoing civil unrest and armed conflicts throughout the country. Other levels apply in some areas.

Kazakhstan

We've reviewed our travel advice for Kazakhstan and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Kazakhstan due to the potential for civil unrest.

Tajikistan

We've reviewed the travel advice for Tajikistan. We haven't changed the level, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Lebanon

We're reviewed our travel advice for Lebanon. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel due to the security environment. Higher levels apply. There have been armed clashes in some areas of Lebanon, including Beirut. Protests occur regularly and can turn violent. The ongoing economic crisis and occasional industrial strikes have affected access to some goods and services, including banks. If you're caught in civil unrest, stay inside and follow the advice of local authorities. Terrorist attacks could occur anytime and anywhere, including in Beirut (see 'Terrorism'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Lebanon overall due to the changed security environment. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Zambia

We've reviewed our travel advice for Zambia. We haven't changed the level, exercise normal safety precautions. Higher levels apply in some areas. If you're entering Zambia as a visitor or tourist, you don't require a visa for stays of up to 90 days in a 12-month period. All visa fees have been removed for Australian passport holders visiting Zambia (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Zambia. Higher levels apply in some areas.
