Bangladesh

We've reviewed our advice for Bangladesh and continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh overall due to the threat of terrorism and the potential for public demonstrations which could escalate. Higher levels apply in some areas.  

Czech Republic

We've reviewed our advice for Czech Republic and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Czech Republic.

Hungary

We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions in Hungary. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Hungary.

Mali

There's an ongoing and very high threat of terrorism throughout Mali, including the capital, Bamako. Terrorists have primarily targeted security forces facilities, resulting in casualties, including civilians. Attacks can occur in places visited by foreigners, including airports, public transport and transportation hubs, tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, shopping centres, markets and hotels (see 'Safety'). The security situation in southern Mali has further deteriorated. The kidnapping risk of foreign nationals in southern Mali is increasing. Foreign nationals and foreign interests, including mining operations, may be targeted. Do not travel to Mali due to the high threat of terrorism and kidnapping. The Canadian Embassy can provide limited emergency consular assistance to Australians (see 'Local contacts'). Vanuatu

Air Vanuatu has cancelled several flights between Australia and Vanuatu until 29 September. Flight delays are still possible after this date. If you're flying to Vanuatu, check your flight status with your airline or travel provider (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Vanuatu.

Canada

Canada is experiencing a severe wildfire season. Wildfires are affecting several Provinces and Territories, including in Western Canada. Monitor media for updates and follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise:  Exercise normal safety precautions in Canada.

Lebanon

We've reviewed our travel advice for Lebanon. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel due to the security environment. Higher levels apply. There have been armed clashes in some areas of Lebanon, including Beirut. Protests occur regularly and can turn violent. The ongoing economic crisis and occasional industrial strikes have affected access to some goods and services, including banks. If you're caught in civil unrest, stay inside and follow the advice of local authorities. Terrorist attacks could occur anytime and anywhere, including in Beirut (see 'Terrorism'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Lebanon overall due to the changed security environment. Higher levels apply in some areas.

New Zealand

A State of Local Emergency has been declared for Southland and for Queenstown district in Otago due to heavy rainfall causing significant flooding (see 'Safety'). A Boil Water Notice has been issued for the Queenstown and Frankton areas due to cryptosporidium found in the local drinking water (see 'Health'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in New Zealand.

Argentina

Uruguay

Seychelles

We've reviewed our advice for Seychelles and continue to advise, exercise normal safety precautions. Before travelling to the Seychelles, you must complete a Digital Travel Authorisation (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in the Seychelles.

Bhutan

We've reviewed our advice for Bhutan. We haven't changed the level of our advice, exercise normal safety precautions. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Bhutan.

Jamaica

You must complete the Immigration/Customs C5 form online before you arrive in Jamaica. This is free and can be completed before your travel via the Government of Jamaica's PICA website (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Jamaica due to the high rates of violent crime.

Serbia

Entry and exit conditions can change with little notice. Before you travel, check with the nearest embassy or consulate of Serbia in case of any changes. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Serbia.

Cuba

If you've travelled to Cuba since January 2021, you're not eligible to participate in the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP). You can’t enter or transit the US on an ESTA, and you’ll need to apply for a visa from the nearest US Embassy. There's an ongoing severe shortage of fuel, which is impacting transport and other government services. There's also a severe shortage of food and drinking water (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Cuba overall due to high levels of crime.

Bolivia

We've reviewed our travel advice for Bolivia and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Political and civil tensions are ongoing, and events can be unpredictable. Large-scale political demonstrations could occur with little warning and may result in violence. Pay close attention to your personal security at all times (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bolivia overall because of ongoing political and social tensions and the risk of serious crime.

Germany

We've reviewed our travel advice for Germany and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Germany due to the threat of terrorism.

Philippines

We've reviewed our advice for the Philippines and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. We've lowered our advice level for Camiguin, Dinagat and Siargao Islands and now advise exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Peru

There's been significant civil unrest in the department of Puno in recent months. We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel to the region of Puno. Take precautions to ensure your safety. Avoid areas affected by civil unrest. If protests develop where you are, leave if it's safe to. Follow the advice of local authorities. Contact your airline or travel provider for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Peru overall due to the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Libya

On 10 September Storm Daniel struck Eastern Libya resulting in severe flooding and causing significant damage to critical infrastructure, including hospitals and telecommunications networks. Follow the advice of local authorities including curfews. We continue to advise do not travel to Libya. If you're in Libya and it's safe to do so, leave as soon as possible. Monitor the website and social media of airlines and airports for available flights. We can’t advise you on the safety of departure options. Due to the ongoing unrest, our ability to provide consular services is severely limited. Contact the Embassy in Rome if you require consular assistance. We continue to advise: Do not travel to Libya due to ongoing fighting, unstable security, and the high threat of terrorist attack and kidnapping.

Trinidad and Tobago

We've reviewed our travel advice for Trinidad and Tobago. We haven't changed our level of advice, exercise a high degree of caution due to the high levels of serious violent crime. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Trinidad and Tobago due to the high levels of serious violent crime.

Morocco

On Friday 8 September an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred with an epicentre 70km southwest of Marrakesh. The earthquake was felt across multiple cities in Morocco. Infrastructure (power, water and communications) has been impacted. Be aware that aftershocks may occur. Follow media and safety instructions from local authorities. If you have concerns about family and friends in Morocco, try to contact them directly before calling the Consular Emergency Centre. If you have been affected and require emergency consular assistance, contact DFAT’s 24/7 Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Morocco overall due to the high risk of terrorist attacks.

Tanzania

We've reviewed our advice and continue to advise, exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall. We have lowered our advice for the Mtwara region but continue to advise, do not travel to within 30km of the border with Mozambique, in the Mtwara region. (see 'Safety'). Terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks anywhere in Tanzania. Be alert to your surroundings and pay close attention to your personal security. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall due to the risk of serious crime.  Higher levels apply in some areas.

Mongolia

You no longer need a visa to enter as a tourist for stays of up to 30 days. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Mongolia.

Japan

We've reviewed our advice for Japan and continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions. Higher levels apply. We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Japan. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

We've reviewed our advice for Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Large scale political protests and strikes continue to occur across Israel. While mostly peaceful, these have the potential to escalate without warning and to disrupt travel. Monitor media for the latest updates. Tensions in the West Bank remain high and could escalate with little or no warning. Be alert. Monitor media and public safety information updates through the National Emergency Portal (accessible in Israel only). Check with your travel provider before travelling. See 'Safety'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories overall due to civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, rocket fire and military confrontation. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Niger

There is political instability in Niger. The security situation remains highly volatile. Protests and civil unrest are expected to continue. Protests can turn violent quickly and without notice. Avoid government buildings, demonstrations, large crowds and political gatherings. A curfew is in place between midnight and 5am. Additional restrictions may be implemented at short notice. There is a high risk of terrorism. Be aware of your surroundings. Terrorists may target places foreigners visit, including hotels, cafes and restaurants. Be alert to threats, especially near government buildings, security facilities, international organisations, diplomatic buildings and police stations. Some land borders remain closed, and others may close without warning. Trying to leave Niger by land borders is likely to be dangerous. We advise do not travel to several countries neighbouring Niger, including Burkina Faso, Mali, Libya, and Chad. We also advise do not travel to Algeria, Nigeria, and Be...

Moldova

We've reviewed the travel advice for Moldova and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas. Due to the war in neighbouring Ukraine, Moldova remains under a nationwide state of emergency. Political protests occur in Moldova. You should follow the instructions of the local authorities at all times. Chile

We've reviewed our advice for Chile and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution. Australian citizens must have a visa to enter Chile. Ensure you apply well in advance to avoid issues on arrival (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile due to potential demonstrations, civil unrest and violence.

Haiti

We've reviewed our travel advice for Haiti and continue to advise do not travel to Haiti. Cholera is an ongoing risk in parts of Haiti. We advise: Do not travel to Haiti overall due to  the very high levels of violent crime, kidnapping and the volatile security situation, as well as severe shortages of basic necessities including fuel, water and food.
