Canada

Canada has eased its border measures as part of its transition to the pandemic response. Pre-entry COVID-19 tests are no longer required for entry if you're fully vaccinated. Cruise ships will shortly be allowed back in Canadian waters with specific disembarking procedures. (see ‘Travel’) We advise:  Exercise a high degree of caution in Canada due to the impacts of COVID-19.

United Kingdom

All COVID-19 travel restrictions in the UK have been removed, regardless of your vaccination status. You no longer need to take any COVID-19 tests before or after arrival, or fill in a UK passenger locator form. You won't need to quarantine on arrival. Other countries still have COVID-19 rules in place which may affect your journey. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in the UK due to the impacts of COVID-19.

El Salvador

El Salvador declared a 30 day state of emergency on 26 March due to the high number of gang-related crimes, including a high number of murders. Follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to El Salvador due to the impacts of COVID-19.

China

From 1 April, the pre-departure testing requirements for China will change. You'll need to take an additional nucleic acid test 7 days before travel, undertake daily health monitoring for the 7 days prior to your departure, and take a rapid antigen test on the day of departure. Testing requirements vary depending on your COVID-19 and vaccination history and may change at short notice. Contact the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate to confirm eligibility and travel requirements. On arrival in China, you're required to quarantine for at least 14 days at a designated hotel or facility. Additional COVID-19 prevention measures and testing will apply and may include an additional 7 days of quarantine and/or health monitoring. These will be determined by local authorities at the initial entry point and final destination in China. Ghana

Fully vaccinated travellers no longer need to provide pre-departure COVID-19 test results or be tested on arrival at Kotoka International Airport. Non-resident unvaccinated travellers won't be granted entry into Ghana. Land borders are now open. Entry requirements apply (see 'Travel'). The wearing of face masks is no longer compulsory. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Ghana overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Other levels apply in some areas.  

New Caledonia

You don't have to quarantine on arrival if you've been fully vaccinated. However, you'll still need to show proof of your vaccination status and a negative COVID-19 (PCR or antigenic) test before departure. You'll also need to take a COVID-19 test 2 days after your arrival. You must provide a written undertaking to do this before your departure. You no longer need to present a Health Pass (Pass Sanitaire) showing proof of COVID-19 vaccination status for activities. You don't need to wear a face mask indoors or outdoors but you're encouraged to wear a mask indoors if you're vulnerable, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. If you're 18 or over, face masks remain mandatory when accessing premises with vulnerable people, like medical and social services. Social distancing and sanitary measures remain applicable. Israel and the Palestinian Territories

You can enter Israel, regardless of vaccination status, if you meet all current entry requirements, including having health insurance which covers COVID-19. On entry, you must undertake a period of quarantine until you receive a negative PCR test result or until 24 hours have passed. Measures are in place to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the Palestinian Territories. Measures include restrictions at tourist and religious sites. Gaza’s entry and exit points with Egypt may close without notice. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Israel and the Palestinian Territories overall due to civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack, rocket fire and military confrontation. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Zambia

The new COVID-19 ‘Omicron’ variant is of global concern. Flights may be disrupted. Tightened restrictions are in place. If you're fully vaccinated, you don't require a negative COVID-19 test result on entry to Zambia, but you'll be required to provide proof of full vaccination status. Fully vaccinated means having 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. If you're not fully vaccinated, you’ll need proof of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken 72 hours before departure from your country of origin, using an approved laboratory through the Trusted Travel platform. Regardless of vaccination status some airlines ask passengers for evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before arrival in Zambia. You should check your airline’s guidelines carefully. If you're leaving Zambia, you'll need a medical certificate confirming you've had a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test. French Polynesia

COVID-19 remains a risk in French Polynesia. Specific measures apply to travel to and from French Polynesia according to where you have been or where you are going. You'll need to provide proof you're fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test or supervised COVID-19 (RAT) test result taken no longer than 24 hours before departure. If your last dose of a COVID-19 vaccine was more than 9 months ago, you must have a booster dose to be considered fully vaccinated. Follow the advice of local authorities. You’ll need to show proof of vaccination status, a negative COVID-19 test performed within 24 hours or a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 within the last 4 months when visiting hospital and clinic facilities. Singapore

From 1 April, Singapore will transition to a new Vaccinated Travel Framework. Fully vaccinated travellers can enter Singapore quarantine free, if they have not visited a 'Restricted Category' destination. You'll still need a negative pre-departure test taken within 2 days of your departure for Singapore. You'll also need to complete a Singapore Arrival Card and purchase travel insurance with a minimum coverage of SGD30,000. You don't need a pre-departure test to transit through Singapore. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Singapore due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Mexico

We now advise you reconsider your need to travel to Zacatecas State due to high levels of crime, including kidnapping and extortion. The land border between Mexico and the US has reopened to fully vaccinated travellers only. Periodic closures of Mexico's land borders with Guatemala and Belize may occur. Check with local authorities before crossing the border. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Mexico overall due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Lebanon

There have been armed clashes involving the exchange of live fire and multiple casualties. Protests are taking place, some of which have turned violent. Avoid protests, and if you're caught in civil unrest, stay inside. There are shortages of medicines and fuel, with frequent power outages. Restrictions are in place, including closure of some areas and services. Fully vaccinated travellers (with their most recent dose in the last six months) are exempted from pre-departure PCR testing when travelling to Lebanon. Masks are mandatory in public – you could be fined if you don’t wear one. Monitor media and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Lebanon overall due to the changed security environment. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Peru

You'll need to show proof that you're fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to enter enclosed spaces in Peru. Peruvian and international vaccine certificates are accepted. A third vaccine (booster shot) is required for people aged 18 and above to be considered fully vaccinated. Check local media for updates. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Peru overall due to the high risk of violent crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Estonia

The land border is open between Estonia and Russia. Commercial bus and rail routes are also available. You'll need to comply with Estonian border rules and requirements including on COVID-19. Visit the Estonian Border Guard website for more information. You may be required to undertake 7 days of self-isolation if you're travelling from a country with a high risk of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. South Africa

We continue to advise 'Reconsider your need to travel' due to the impacts of COVID-19 and disruptions to global travel. Several destinations continue to restrict entry or transit of travellers from South Africa. These restrictions may change at short notice. Botswana

The travel advice level has been lowered to ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ to Botswana due to the impacts of COVID-19 and disruptions to global travel. Several destinations continue to restrict entry or transit of travellers from Botswana. These restrictions may change at short notice We now advise: Reconsider your need to travel Botswana due to the impacts of COVID-19 and disruptions to global travel.

Finland

The land border is open between Finland and Russia. Commercial bus routes are also available. The train service between St Petersburg and Helsinki will be suspended from 28 March. Visit the Finnish Border Guard website for more information. (See 'Travel'). If you're from outside the EU/Schengen zone and were born in or before 2006, you must provide certain documentation to enter Finland. If you can't provide these documents, then you must have an essential reason for entry. Within Finland, you may be required to show a COVID-19 Passport to enter or attend some events and venues. See 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Finland due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Timor-Leste

We now advise you exercise a high degree of caution in Timor-Leste. COVID-19 case numbers in Timor-Leste have decreased considerably from a peak in February. Fully vaccinated travellers can enter Timor-Leste without prior approval. You must present proof of full vaccination (two doses) at check-in and on arrival. Entry requirements can change with little notice. If you don't comply with entry requirements, you'll be subject to 14 days quarantine. The Presidential run-off election will be held in April 2022 (see 'Safety'). We now advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Timor-Leste due to safety and the impacts of COVID-19.

Philippines

Fully vaccinated arrivals are no longer required to quarantine on arrival. From 10 February, fully vaccinated Australians are allowed to enter the Philippines, without a visa, provided they meet certain requirements. All foreign nationals entering the Philippines must have travel insurance for COVID-19 treatment with a minimum coverage of $US35,000. A range of COVID-19 measures are in place throughout the country. These can change regularly. Follow the Philippines Department of Tourism for the latest advice. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to the Philippines overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Namibia

If you're fully vaccinated, you don't need a COVID-19 (PCR) test before you arrive, but you'll need to present a valid vaccination certificate on arrival in Namibia. Several destinations continue to restrict entry or transit of travellers from Namibia. These restrictions may change at short notice. There are restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you don't follow COVID-19 regulations, you may be subject to legal process, including fines. Follow the advice of local authorities. We now advise: Reconsider your need to travel  to Namibia due to the impacts of COVID-19 and disruptions to global travel.

Uzbekistan

Entry requirements to Uzbekistan have changed. If you're fully vaccinated you no longer need a pre-departure COVID-19 test to enter. If you’re over 12 years of age and not fully vaccinated, you must present evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken in the 72 hours before arrival. Bulgaria

Bulgaria classifies arriving travellers using a traffic light system of green, orange and red countries. Entry restrictions and other requirements apply depending on the country you arrive from. See 'Travel'. A COVID-19 certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result is no longer needed to access indoor or outdoor venues. Czech Republic

If you're allowed to enter the Czech Republic, you may need to submit a Public Health Passenger Locator Form before arrival. For the latest entry requirements and in-country restrictions see 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Czech Republic due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Malaysia

Malaysia will reopen to tourism on 1 April and new entry requirements will be in place. Until then, you must comply with existing entry requirements. You're currently not permitted to enter Malaysia as a tourist, except for travel to Langkawi Island under the international tourism bubble. Monitor the Malaysian Department of Immigration and Malaysian Ministry of Health websites, and social media for any changes. (See ‘Travel’). Mauritius

You must submit the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital form prior to arrival, with a printed copy to present at the Immigration Counter. If you've been vaccinated, you must provide proof of your vaccination. If you’ve had a COVID-19 infection you must provide documented proof of infection plus further vaccination. If you're not vaccinated, you must self-isolate for 7 nights in your accommodation. You must take a COVID-19 test on arrival. If you test positive to COVID-19 while in Mauritius, you’ll be required to isolate for a minimum of 7 days. You must provide proof of accommodation booking and health insurance which covers COVID-19 treatment (see "Travel"). Bahrain

Bahrain has further refined its COVID-19 measures, including by introducing a traffic light system. Flight options to Australia are unpredictable and may stop without notice. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bahrain due to the threat of terrorist attack and civil unrest.

Yemen

We've reviewed our travel advice for Yemen. We advise: Do not travel to Yemen (including the island of Socotra) due to the very high threat of kidnapping and terrorist attack.

Georgia

Georgia’s land borders are open with the exception of the Azerbaijan land border, which at this time requires special permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan to cross. The Georgian land border with Russia near Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) is open. Entry is unrestricted for travellers who have documented proof of having received a full course of COVID-19 vaccination (see 'Travel'). Vietnam

Vietnam has re-opened its borders to all foreign travellers who meet visa and health requirements. Regular international commercial flights, including to Australia, are operating. To travel to Vietnam you must have evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours of departure to Vietnam. Alternatively, you can have evidence of a negative rapid antigen test, administered by a medical professional, within 24 hours of departure to Vietnam. All COVID cases and close contacts will need to isolate. Travel around the country may be challenging. Entry and social distancing measures vary between provinces. These measures may change at short notice and may impact your ability to travel and access essential services. Follow the advice of local authorities. Monitor the Australian Embassy's social media for major updates. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Vietnam due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Cambodia

Cambodia has recommenced the Visa-on-Arrival program. If you can show proof of vaccination, you don't need any pre-departure or on-arrival COVID-19 tests. You can travel to Cambodia via air, land and sea. Unvaccinated travellers are still required to quarantine for 14 days. Nepal

You no longer need a COVID-19 test to travel to Nepal if you’re fully vaccinated. Most pandemic restrictions have now been lifted. You'll need to present your COVID-19 vaccination certificate on arrival in Nepal. Follow the advice of local authorities. Chile

To enter Chile, you’ll need a valid visa prior to arrival. To meet Chile’s COVID-19 requirements, you must also have medical insurance, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with vaccines recognised in a Pase de Movilidad (Chilean mobility pass), a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test result and a completed International Travel Affidavit. Restrictions on masks, social gatherings and border restrictions continue. We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Chile due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Tanzania

If you're travelling to Tanzania, you must have a negative COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test result taken in the 96 hours before your arrival, complete the Ministry of Health's online surveillance form in the 24 hours before arrival and take a rapid test on arrival. Confirm COVID-19 requirements with local authorities and your airline(s) ahead of travel. Follow the advice of local authorities and COVID-19 infection prevention and control measures. We continue to advise 'Reconsider your need to travel' to the Mtwara region due to the threat of terrorism and kidnappings. See ‘Safety’. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tanzania overall due to the risk of serious crime. Higher levels apply in some areas.

China

Pre-departure requirements for travel to China from Australia have changed. In addition to meeting visa requirements, there are health testing requirements. The requirements vary depending on your COVID-19 and vaccination history. There are multiple tests required within specified timeframes. Testing requirements may change at short notice. Contact the nearest Chinese embassy/consulate to confirm travel requirements. On arrival in China, travellers are required to quarantine for 14 days at a designated hotel or facility. Additional COVID-19 prevention measures and testing will apply. These will be determined by local authorities at the initial entry point and final destination in China. As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on grounds of 'endangering national security'. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in China overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Other levels apply in some areas.

Slovakia

Military action is underway in Ukraine. Russian troops have entered Ukrainian territory. Heavy fighting, including bombardments, explosions and missile launches, is ongoing around Kyiv and other areas of the country. Civilians are being impacted. Land border crossing points with Ukraine have major delays. Expect highly congested routes, checkpoints, lengthy queues and delays. Make sure you have a supply of food, water, medication and fuel. You should not attempt to cross into Ukraine from Slovakia. You should follow the instructions of the local authorities at all times. If you have arrived in Slovakia from Ukraine and are in need of assistance, contact the Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 in Australia or +61 2 6261 3305 outside Australia. Russia border regions

Cook Islands

Flights to and from Auckland have been reinstated for vaccinated travellers. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Cook Islands due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Germany

COVID-19 restrictions are currently in place in Germany. Digital registration before you enter is required if you've spent time in a high risk country or in an area with variants of concern. You must provide a negative COVID test (PCR or antigen), proof of vaccination, or evidence of having recovered from COVID-19 on entry. (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Germany due to the impacts of COVID-19.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has extended its special quarantine regime until May 2022. Land border crossings remain closed. It's only possible for Australian citizens and residence permit holders to enter and exit Azerbaijan by air. There are currently no restrictions on travel within Azerbaijan. Most businesses and services are open including restaurants, cafes and shopping malls, but may require a ‘COVID-19 Passport’ for entry (see ‘Travel’). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Azerbaijan overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Ireland

You no longer need to show any proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, proof of a negative COVID-19 test or an Irish passenger locator form on arrival in Ireland. There are no post-arrival testing or quarantine requirements. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms while in Ireland, follow local government advice regarding isolation and taking an antigen or PCR test (see "Travel"). Sri Lanka

COVID-19 remains a risk in Sri Lanka. Further restrictions could be imposed at short notice. You won't be able to enter Sri Lanka without mandatory COVID-19 insurance cover. Fully vaccinated travellers don't need to quarantine or present evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR/Rapid Antigen) test. However, your airline may still need you to present a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test certificate before boarding. You'll also need to complete the Online Health Declaration Form and upload evidence of your vaccination status before departure. Rwanda

To enter Rwanda, you must complete a passenger locator form and upload a COVID-19 (RT-PCR) test certificate before departure. On entry, you must self-isolate until you return a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result taken on arrival. A rapid antigen test will also be taken on arrival and on day 3 from arrival. All testing is at your own cost, at a designated testing site. Curfew measures are in place in Kigali and elsewhere. You'll need to be fully vaccinated to visit bars and restaurants. Face masks must be worn at all times. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Ongoing changes to restrictions are anticipated. Follow the advice of local authorities. Vanuatu

The Government of Vanuatu has confirmed that cases of COVID-19 have been detected outside quarantine in Port Vila. As a result all inbound international passenger flights continue to be suspended. There is a suspension of all inbound and outbound domestic travel to and from the island of Efate. The island of Efate is now in lockdown with overnight curfews in place. All non-essential businesses are closed, and there are restrictions on public gatherings. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Vanuatu due to the impacts of COVID-19. 

Latvia

Latvia’s land border are open with Russia and Belarus for those travelling by car or commercial bus. There are no passenger rail options currently running between Russia/Belarus and Latvia. Visit the Latvian Border Guard website for more information. Latvia has lifted most state of emergency measures. You no longer need to have a significant reason to visit Latvia. You no longer need to fill out Latvia’s arrival form ‘covidpass’ before arrival. Latvia accepts Australia’s COVID-19 Vaccination Certification. If you don't have a vaccination certificate or a certificate of recovery, you'll need to present a negative COVID-19 test result (72 hours prior for RNA, 48 hours for rapid antigen) on arrival. Children under 12 are exempt. Some venues in Latvia will require a COVID-19 certificate for entry. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution  in Latvia due to the impacts of COVID-19. Oman

On arrival into Oman, you have to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination (at least 2 doses of a recognised vaccine). See 'Travel'. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Oman overall due to the impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.

Lithuania

On 24 February 2022, the Lithuanian government declared a state of emergency in response to Russian military action in Ukraine, in effect until 10 March. You are required by law to carry photo identification with you at all times while travelling in Lithuania (see ‘Travel’).
