If you travel to Iran despite our advice, you will be screened for coronavirus (COVID-19) at airports. There has been confirmed cases including deaths. Iranian authorities have suspended flights to and from China. If you have symptoms of respiratory illness, contact your doctor before travelling. Check with your travel provider on disruptions and monitor media for updates.

We haven't changed our level of advice:

Reconsider your need to travel due to the volatile security situation and the high risk that foreigners, including Australians, could be arbitrarily detained or arrested. Dual nationals are also at risk.

Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.
