On 18 March 2020 foreign nationals from all countries were barred from entering Canada. There are a small number of designated exceptional circumstances, including air crew, transit passengers, Canadian permanent residents, diplomats or immediate family members of Canadian citizens. Direct Air Canada flights between Canada and Australia will be progressively suspended starting from 26 March 2020. Please see the Air Canada website for travel information between Canada and Australia. Australians in Canada who are trying to return to Australia with an itinerary that requires transiting through the United States may still be able to do so. However, this situation may change at short notice as the US and Canadian Governments introduce new COVID-19 border control measures. You must contact the US Pre-clearance Office at the Canadian airport you are departing from, in advance, to confirm that you will be permitted to board your flight in Canada, and transit through the United States.
