Israel and the Palestinian Territories
We now advise all Australians not to travel overseas at this time including to Israel and the Palestinian Territories. If you’re already overseas and wish to return to Australia, we recommend you do so as soon as possible by commercial means.
To prevent the spread of COVID−19, Israel and the Palestinian Authority have introduced additional travel restrictions. Israel is denying entry to people who are not Israeli citizens or residents, even if you are able to home quarantine. Exceptions may be made for those whose “lives are based in Israel”. The Israeli authorities have imposed significant internal restrictions, including the closure of schools, restaurants and many other locations, and strict limits on public gatherings.
The Palestinian Authority has announced a month long state of emergency for COVID-19. Tourist and religious sites will be closed. Foreign visitors are not permitted to enter the West Bank and the Palestinian Authority has advised against all but critical travel between Palestinian cities. The authorities in Gaza have closed Gaza’s two entry points. If you wish to leave the West Bank it will be difficult; you may not be able to.
Further restrictions may be imposed. Check with your airline, tour operator or the nearest Israeli embassy or Palestinian representative office for the latest information.
