If you choose to travel to Portugal despite our advice be prepared that restrictions are changing often and quickly. From midday 17 March, all travel to the EU and Schengen Area is banned for 30 days. Commercial flights out of Portugal are increasingly limited and may cease without warning. If you decide to return to Australia, we recommend you arrange to do so immediately. Contact your airline, travel agent or insurance company to arrange flights back to Australia. If you can’t or don’t want to return to Australia, follow the advice of local authorities. Take care to minimise your risk of exposure to COVID-19 including by self-isolating. If you choose to stay, note our ability to provide consular assistance may be limited due to restrictions on movement and other services.
