Only Tongan citizens are permitted to enter Tonga at this time. The only exception is for foreign medical personnel deployed to Tonga to assist the Ministry of Health. Cruise ships and yachts are banned, and international flights have been reduced. A state of emergency has been declared. If you are in Tonga and wish to return to Australia, we recommend you do so as soon as possible by commercial means. If you decide to remain in Tonga or can’t leave, follow the advice of local authorities, take care to protect yourself from exposure to COVID-19, ensure you have arrangements in place for an extended stay, and keep in contact with family and friends back home.
