Indonesia
COVID-19 has spread widely throughout Indonesia, including Bali. Critical medical care is significantly below the standard available in Australia. Testing and infection control facilities are limited and there's a critical lack of intensive care and ventilators. These services are under significant strain in the current crisis. The Australian Government cannot guarantee your access to hospital and other health services in Indonesia.
If you’re an Australian visitor in Indonesia leave now – don’t delay. If you’re a long-term Australian resident of Indonesia, consider whether you have the support and access to effective health services you and your family will need. If in doubt, we recommend you return to Australia. The Australian Government has no plans to evacuate you. Flight options to Australia are very limited and may reduce further. Your airline may require you to show evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result issued within the 7 days prior to departure, before allowing on board a domestic or international flight. Contact your airline for more information. Authorities have also implemented extensive restrictions on domestic travel within Indonesia on all forms of land, sea and air transport during the Ramadan period, until early June.
We encourage Australians remaining in Indonesia to register with the Australian Embassy at covid19.dfat.gov.au (see 'Local contacts' for link). Registration will enable us to contact you directly if required during the COVID-19 epidemic in Indonesia. We also continue to encourage you to subscribe separately to this travel advice for Indonesia.
