The international airport in El Salvador remains closed but daily 'humanitarian' flights are being operated by carriers such as United Airlines and Avianca. Book directly with the airlines and arrive at the airport early. If you're departing El Salvador on a United Airlines flight, you'll need an authorisation issued by the US Embassy to board. The Australian Embassy in Mexico can help you get this authorisation, please advise us as early as possible. 'Humanitarian' flights operated by Avianca are open to US citizens and permanent residents only. See 'Travel' for details, including links. If you're staying in El Salvador, follow the advice of local authorities, maintain social distance and be aware of movement restrictions. You must wear a face mask at all times when you leave your home or accommodation.
