Libya

If you're in Libya, leave as soon as possible if it is safe for you to do so. Regularly reassess your security arrangements and access to effective health services. Our capacity to provide consular assistance to Australians in Libya is limited. The Australian Government has no plans to evacuate you. There are limited commercial flights out of Libya (mainly to Tunis and Istanbul). Monitor the website and social media of airlines and airports for available flights. We can’t advise you on the safety of departure options. Follow the advice of local authorities, including on curfews and travel restrictions as a result of the conflict and COVID-19 pandemic. In certain areas, e.g. where fighting is taking place, the best course of action may be to stay where you are until it becomes safer to move on. You should contact the Embassy in Rome if you require consular assistance.

We continue to advise:

Do not travel to Libya due to:

  • ongoing fighting, unstable security, and the high threat of terrorist attack and kidnapping
  • the health risks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant disruptions to global travel.
