Ethiopia

A nationwide State of Emergency was announced on 2 November 2021. You must carry copies of your ID and follow the instructions of authorities. Demonstrations and public meetings are banned. Additional restrictions may be implemented at short notice. There is ongoing armed conflict in the northern regions of Ethiopia. We now advise 'Do not travel' (level 4 of 4) to the Regional States of Tigray and Amhara, and the Afar region. In order to enter Ethiopia, you'll need a combination of evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 or recovery from the illness, plus a COVID-19 test certificate (see 'Travel').

Reconsider your need to travel to Ethiopia due to ongoing civil unrest, armed conflicts in the north of the country and the risk of them spreading to new areas without warning. Higher levels apply.
