China
From 17 January, pre-departure requirements for travel to China from Australia will change. In addition to meeting visa requirements, there are health testing requirements. The requirements vary depending on your COVID-19 and vaccination history. There are multiple tests required within specified timeframes. Testing requirements may change at short notice. Contact the nearest Chinese embassy/consulate to confirm travel requirements. On arrival in China, travellers are required to quarantine for 14 days at a designated hotel or facility. Additional COVID-19 prevention measures and testing will apply. These will be determined by local authorities at the initial entry point and final destination in China. Further COVID-19 countermeasures may be imposed by China in the lead-up to and during the Olympic and Paralympic Games period.
As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on grounds of 'endangering national security'. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention.
