Pre-departure requirements for travel to China from Australia have changed. In addition to meeting visa requirements, there are health testing requirements. The requirements vary depending on your COVID-19 and vaccination history. There are multiple tests required within specified timeframes. Testing requirements may change at short notice. Contact the nearest Chinese embassy/consulate to confirm travel requirements. On arrival in China, travellers are required to quarantine for 14 days at a designated hotel or facility. Additional COVID-19 prevention measures and testing will apply. These will be determined by local authorities at the initial entry point and final destination in China.

As previously advised, authorities have detained foreigners on grounds of 'endangering national security'. Australians may be at risk of arbitrary detention.
