Guinea

We’ve reviewed our advice for Guinea. We haven’t changed the level of our advice, exercise a high degree of caution. Higher levels apply in some areas.

A large explosion at Guinea’s primary fuel depot on 18 December has caused widespread fuel shortages. Rising transportation costs have led to higher prices and shortages of basic food and services and have contributed to a heightened risk of crime. Local hospitals are under strain as a result of the explosion.

There are ongoing heightened political and social tensions, including in the capital Conakry and other towns, with the potential for the situation to deteriorate without warning. Avoid protests and public gatherings as they can turn violent and remain vigilant. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media for updates.

The Australian High Commission in Accra has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Guinea.

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Guinea overall due to the risk of civil unrest.

Higher levels apply in some areas.
